Logan Gilbert MLB Chalkboard Fantasy Pick: Over 5.5 Strikeouts

Logan Gilbert is coming off his strongest outing of the season after throwing six shutout innings and racking up nine strikeouts. He’ll look to keep that momentum going on Saturday at home against the San Diego Padres. This matchup sets up well for another solid strikeout performance. 

San Diego has struggled badly at the plate lately. Over the past two weeks, the Padres have a 27.6% strikeout rate and a .191 team batting average, which are both the second-worst marks in the league during this span. Against right-handed pitching specifically, they’ve posted an MLB-high 30.6% strikeout rate over the past week. 

It’s an ideal situation for Gilbert, especially pitching in Seattle. Last season, he posted an impressive 38.8% strikeout rate and 2.45 FIP at home, compared to a 26.2% strikeout rate and 4.33 FIP on the road. So far this year, he’s recorded at least six strikeouts in five of nine starts. Plus, he’s reached seven or more Ks in three of his last six appearances. 

One of Gilbert’s biggest strengths is limiting walks, allowing him to work deep into games and create more strikeout opportunities. The Padres have also struggled away from home, carrying the seventh-highest road K rate in the sport this season (25.2%). 

CJ Abrams MLB Chalkboard Fantasy Pick: Over 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

Chris Bassitt will be on the mound for the Baltimore Orioles today. That means we have the chance to fade him on the road. In particular, let’s bank on CJ Abrams playing a key role for the Washington Nationals in this home matchup. 

The Nats’ shortstop has a .401 wOBA and .923 OPS this year, which rank 11th and 10th in the majors, respectively, among qualified batters.
