Donovan Walton MLB Chalkboard Fantasy Pick: Over 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

Donovan Walton has quietly become one of the hottest hitters in the Los Angeles Angels’ lineup. The 32-year-old journeyman is enjoying what could be a breakout campaign with his fourth organization in five years. Walton is batting .329 with an .885 OPS across 26 games so far. 

Sunday’s matchup sets up well for Walton to stay productive. Athletics starter Aaron Civale has struggled this season, posting a 4.88 ERA and 1.58 WHIP. His recent form has been even worse, as he’s been tagged for an 11.25 ERA over his last four starts. 

Civale has also had issues against left-handed hitters, surrendering a .327 batting average and .972 OPS in the split. Enter Walton, who is batting .343 with an .898 OPS against right-handed pitching. He’s also swinging a hot bat lately, with a .438 average and 1.281 OPS over the last 10 games. He also has over 1.5 hits+runs+RBI in seven of the last 10 contests. 

Emerson Hancock MLB Chalkboard Fantasy Pick: Over 4.5 Strikeouts

It’s been an inconsistent season for Emerson Hancock, who enters Sunday with a 3.60 ERA and 1.02 WHIP for the Seattle Mariners. While he’s mixed in a few rough outings, he’s also shown plenty of upside. Sunday’s matchup against the Cleveland Guardians presents a strong opportunity for the right-hander to pile up strikeouts. 

Cleveland has been one of the most strikeout-prone teams in baseball against right-handed pitching lately. Over the past two weeks, the Guardians own a 28.9% strikeout rate vs. righties – the second-highest mark in the MLB. That trend extends over a larger sample as well, with the offense striking out at a 25.0% clip against right-handers over the last month (fourth-highest in MLB). 

Hancock has posted a career-best 24.2% strikeout rate this season. He’s recorded at least five strikeouts in eight of his 15 starts. This matchup offers even more upside, especially considering his elite 5.7% walk rate, which ranks in the 88th-percentile in MLB. Hancock also dominated Cleveland earlier this season, racking up nine strikeouts, and he can generate those swings and misses again.
