He leads all of MLB with a 1.58 ERA, a 2.04 FIP, and 185 strikeouts, and he just tied the major league record with 20 strikeouts in a single start. His last time out was another showcase, punching out the first seven batters of the game and 12 of the first 13 against the Rockies in his 11th win of the season, allowing just a solo homer.

Today marks his first career look at the Angels, and Angel Stadium profiles as the third-best strikeout park in baseball per THE BAT's leading projection model, with LA's lineup chasing strikeouts at 25% against right-handers. A fastball now averaging 100 mph, up 1.4 ticks from last season, against a favorable park and lineup makes this the single best play on the board. 

Zack Wheeler Over 7.5 Strikeouts (-110)

A scary final start hasn't changed anything about how good Wheeler has been all season. His last outing was a genuine outlier, just three innings and a season-high five runs allowed against the Marlins, his shortest start in over four years with fastball velocity down from 95.1 to 93.5 mph. He and the Phillies confirmed no injury concern afterward, and he threw a clean bullpen session Friday to get the green light for today.

Even in that disaster start, he still struck out six, and he carries a 2.53 ERA and a 123:23 K:BB ratio over 103 innings into this afternoon's matchup with Baltimore, a lineup that chases strikeouts against right-handers at a strong 23.9% clip. An elite strikeout arm facing a lineup that simply isn't hitting anybody right now is plus-money value the market hasn't fully priced in. 

Gerrit Cole Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+115)

Two years removed from Tommy John surgery, Cole looks like himself again. His last start showed exactly that, seven strikeouts through a 53-minute rain delay, his highest total since a 10-strikeout outing back on May 27, part of a return campaign that's produced a 4-5 record, 3.57 ERA, and a 9.66 K/9. Since his belated debut, he's been taken deep a bit too often, but the swing-and-miss stuff has never been the issue, a 66:12 K:BB ratio over his recent stretch.

Today, Cole faces the Cubs at Wrigley, and Chicago strikes out against right-handers at a healthy 21.7% clip. A veteran ace continuing to build back toward peak form, at plus money no less, is a strong number to target.

Rookie righties making just their second try in a rotation spot don't usually come with a strikeout-friendly profile, and Ritchie is no exception. The 22-year-old sits at 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA and a modest 20.8% strikeout rate, one of the lower marks on today's board, and he was actually a last-minute scratch from a rehab start at Triple-A Gwinnett just days ago when a rotation shuffle pushed him back into the majors, hardly the picture of a settled, rhythm-building starter.

Ritchie faces Washington this afternoon, and while the Nationals have lost four straight, they also strike out against right-handers at just 20.3%, one of the lower matchup numbers on the slate, meaning there's no real strikeout tailwind to lean on either.
