Our MLB best bets today feature the ALDS Game 5 showdown between the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians. It’s been an entertaining series so far, but it all comes down to Saturday’s win-or-go-home scenario. Check out our MLB picks below, including some player props. Good luck! 

 

White Sox vs. Guardians Prediction: Saturday, October 10th

After the White Sox won the first two games of this series, the Guardians have evened things up with victories in both Games 3 and 4. That brings us to an intriguing ALDS Game 5 matchup for our MLB best bets today. Cleveland is the slight home favorite, but let’s focus on the game total. 

Sean Burke gets the start for Chicago. The right-hander was excellent against the Guardians in Game 2, allowing only one run with six strikeouts over 5.1 innings. He was also very effective vs. Cleveland in the regular season, posting a 1.04 ERA with a 21:3 K:BB ratio across three matchups. 

Although the Guardians’ offense has woken up in the past two games, Burke’s head-to-head success against this lineup is tough to ignore. Collectively, the Cleveland hitters are batting just .216 against him. Plus, the White Sox have a top-10 bullpen behind Burke if he runs into trouble. 

On the other side, Gavin Williams starts for Cleveland. The righty struck out 11 in five solid innings against Chicago back in Game 2. He also threw a scoreless ninth inning of relief in the Game 4 victory. Despite that appearance, Williams should be ready to go from a workload standpoint, as that relief outing was essentially a bullpen session. 

The Guardians also feature an elite bullpen behind Williams. The relief corps posted a 2.93 FIP in high-leverage situations this season, which ranked third in the majors. Cleveland has used its bullpen a lot in this series, but the off day between Games 4 and 5 should help. 

All in all, expect a lower-scoring matchup in this Game 5. If either starter or reliever struggles, expect a quick trigger to limit the damage. These winner-take-all matchups also usually stifle scoring in general.
