Padres vs. Nationals Predictions: Sunday, May 31st
We have almost reached the end of May and the Washington Nationals are the highest-scoring offense in baseball! At 5.42 runs per game, they pace all 30 teams and what's better is that they should continue their run today against the Padres and their struggling starter, Griffin Canning.
Canning has had a rocky road this season, as over five starts, he has an ERA of 7.54 and has allowed 22 hits and 13 walks over 22.2 innings pitched. He's also had issues against lefties, as all four of his home runs allowed have been from that side of the plate and opponents hit well with a .918 OPS against him. This is real bad news as the Nationals' top of the order is stuffed with lefty bats and ones that are hot right now as well. James Wood stands out the most with his .409 batting average and 1.263 OPS over his last six games played. He has 16 total bases and seven runs during that span of 22 at bats as well. I like Wood to continue the heater he is on today and go over his hits/runs/RBIs mark.
In addition to the Nationals offense, it could be a productive afternoon for the Padres as well going against Zack Littell. His numbers have been better of late, but the underlying stats are still very good with an xwOBA of .392, one of the highest numbers in the majors. This game has the makings of a real barn burner this afternoon, so let's go ahead and lock in the over at nine runs.
- Expert MLB Picks
- James Wood (WSH) Over 1.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-125 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
- Padres & Nationals Over 9 Runs (-115 on BetMGM Sportsbook)
Yankees vs. Athletics Predictions: Saturday, May 31st
This series wraps up today between the Yankees and A's as each team has a win and today is the rubber match! The Yankees are trending to win with Will Warren taking on Jacob Lopez, but let's dive into the stats to get a wager or two!
Jacob Lopez has had a rough season on the bump for the A's this season and today shouldn't be any different. Through 48.2 innings pitched, the southpaw has an ERA of 5.73 and has allowed 55 hits and a whopping 31 walks in his outings. He has really had a tough time against right handed bats though, as they're hitting .299 with a .923 OPS over the course of this season. Paul Goldschmidt becomes the name to watch for me today, given those splits from the pitching. Goldy is hitting .340 with a 1.180 OPS against lefty pitching this season and he is projected to bat leadoff today which means likely five at bats for the veteran. If he gets on base, as he's shown to do, the rest of the lineup will hit him home. Let's take him to go over his hits/runs/RBIs and watch the Yankees' offense have a day.
- Expert MLB Picks
- Yankees Money Line (-155 on FanDuel Sportsbook)
- Paul Goldschmidt Over 2.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (+115 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
Best MLB Player Prop Bets & Other Picks Today, 5/31
