MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 8/20 St. Louis Cardinals vs. Cincinnati Reds Prediction: Thursday, August 20th

 

Its another big series in the NL Central that is wrapping up today early in the afternoon as the Reds host the Cardinals to close out a five game series! One of them was a makeup game but still its been a long bout for these squads. 

The pitching will be average at best today as Michael McGreevy takes on Brady Singer of the Reds. Singer has been brutal in day game starts this season with a 5.57 ERA and an OBA of .299. Most of the damage has come against lefties as he's let them hit .304 with a .873 OPS on the season. In addition to that 18 of the 24 homers he's surrendered this season have come against that side of the plate. The Cardinals as an offense also have a wOBA of .320 over the past two weeks so Singer is in trouble. 

On the other side McGreevy has been better but his underlying numbers are still poor. His xwOBA sits at .355 on the season and his xERA is up above five as well. While this Reds lineup is inconsistent they may be able to unravel him. With these pitchers and their data I am going to be taking the over on the game total today. 

In addition to the total I also love the spot for Alec Burleson today as a lefty against Singer. Burleson is hitting .310 with a .976 OPS over the past seven games and has been equally impressive in day time games. Over 1.5 hits/runs/RBIs is the play on this prop.
