MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 8/14 St. Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs Prediction: Tuesday, August 14th

A crucial series in the NL Central kicks off this afternoon as the Cubs host the Cardinals for a weekend series. The stakes are high as the Cardinals are attempting to claw back into the Wild Card race and the Cubs are gaining ground on the division leading Brewers! 

Unfortunately for the red birds Matthew Liberatore is slated to start on the mound today and he's been really taking his lumps this season. On the road this year he has an ERA of 5.13 and is allowing a .282 OBA in total. His number specifically against the Cubs aren't great either as they are hitting .283 against him over three starts. This Chicago offense has also hit a .188 isolated power mark over the past two weeks (3rd in MLB) and their team wOBA has climbed to .336. This one has the Cubs winning big written all over it so I will be taking them on the run line this evening. 

In addition to backing the Cubs let's add a player prop for the lineup as well. While Liberatore is weak to the lefty on lefty crime most of the power against him is on the right handed side of the dish. 13 of his 20 homers allowed this season have been against them and it sets up a guy like Alex Bregman in a big way as he's hitting .375 with a 1.339 OPS over his last week of games. Let's rock with him to go over his hits/runs/RBIs today as he has 21 total bases over the past six games.
