MLB Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 10/5

White Sox vs. Guardians Prediction: Monday, October 5th

We are onto Game 2 of this American League Divisional Series as the White Sox took the opening matchup and now lead one to zero. It was a lackluster offense that sank the home team Guardians in the first game but how will they fare today?

The biggest thing going for Cleveland in this game is that Gavin Williams is on the mound and that usually means good things. He finished the season with a 3.76 ERA but in September he sat at 2.54 and racked up 44 strikeouts over 28.1 innings pitched. During that month opposing batters hit just .184 against him as well. Williams did have some issues with the White Sox this season allowing nine earned runs in 20.1 innings pitched but he blew the ball by them too with 28 strikeouts. 

Through three games in the postseason the White Sox hold a 26.7% strikeout rate and that puts Williams in the driver seat for his prop today on Ks. Of pitchers that threw at least 175 innings this season Williams had the highest Whiff rate in the majors at 32.8%. Chicago may score runs but I fully back Williams to go over 7.5 strikeouts. 

In addition to that I like the offenses today as the White Sox have scored 16 total runs in three games and they'll have Anthony Kay on the bump today. Kay is super susceptible to right handed hitting and that's something the Guardians have plenty of in their stable. 6.5 runs is also a very low total, even for a postseason game so let's bet on Cleveland to get the bats going today and for the White Sox to hold serve as well.
