Detroit Tigers vs. Texas Rangers Predictions: Sunday, July 20th
This week’s Sunday Night Baseball game features the Texas Rangers hosting the Detroit Tigers. We also have an exciting starting pitching matchup tonight with Tarik Skubal vs. Nathan Eovaldi. Let’s find some MLB bets for this showdown.Â
Skubal comes in with full rest after starting the All-Star Game. Though he uncharacteristically coughed up 2 runs in that appearance, we can forgive him since he had to face Shohei Ohtani, Ronald Acuna, and Ketel Marte in his lone inning. He should be amped up to rebound from that tough outing.Â
On that note, Skubal always seems to rise to the occasion in his road starts. He owns a 1.97 ERA on the road this year with a .184 batting average allowed and 31.0% K rate. The left-hander has also tossed 7 shutout innings in each of his last three road starts ahead of this one.Â
In case you forgot, Skubal is posting another Cy Young-caliber season. He has a 2.23 ERA, 2.02 FIP, and 0.83 WHIP through 19 starts. His 33.4% K rate, 3.5% walk rate, 32.3% hard-hit rate, and .210 xBA are all elite metrics.Â
The Detroit southpaw will face a Rangers offense that’s struggled against left-handed pitching this year, with a .276 wOBA (27th in MLB) and 76 wRC+ (27th). Texas is also batting just .216 against southpaws in the month of July. When Skubal faced this lineup back in May, he allowed only one run and two baserunners with 12 strikeouts over 7.1 strong innings.Â
As for Eovaldi, he’s also having an excellent season with a 1.58 ERA and 0.85 WHIP through 16 starts. He’s looked good over the last month since returning from the IL. It’s definitely risky to fade him right now, but tonight presents a rare opportunity to do just that.Â
The Tigers are a top-tier offense against right-handed pitching. They have a .323 wOBA (10th in MLB) and 108 wRC+ (9th) vs. righties this year. In July, Detroit has a .333 wOBA (10th) and 114 wRC+ (10th) in the split.Â
Notably, Eovaldi will be pitching on 6 days rest here following the All-Star break. The longer rest actually hasn’t gone well for the veteran. When pitching on 6+ days of rest over the past two seasons, he has a rough 5.40 ERA in seven starts. He also has a career 4.59 ERA on 6+ days of rest.Â
Let’s back the Tigers and Skubal to have the edge tonight. Detroit has the best road winning percentage in the majors this season (57.5%), including 5-2 in the last seven road games.Â
- Expert Tigers vs. Rangers Picks:
- Tigers -1.5 Runline (-102 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
- 1st 5 Innings Tigers -0.5 RL (-125 on DraftKings Sportsbook)

Athletics vs. Cleveland Guardians Predictions: Sunday, July 20th
The Athletics and Cleveland Guardians wrap up their weekend series with an interesting Sunday tilt. The starting pitching matchup presents some value towards the visiting underdogs. Let’s roll with the A’s at plus-money.Â
Athletics starter Jeffery Springs was shaky earlier this season, but he’s been pitching well lately. He owns a 2.48 ERA over his last six starts and a solid 3.20 ERA since the beginning of May. This is an extended run of good outings from the left-hander.Â
Springs has also been productive on the road lately. He’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in six of his last seven road starts coming into today. The southpaw now faces a Guardians offense that’s bottom-tier vs. left-handers this year with a .274 wOBA (29th in MLB) and 75 wRC+ (27th). Plus, in July vs. lefties, Cleveland has just a .212 batting average.Â
On the other side, Cleveland starter Gavin Williams has been up and down for much of this season. He has a 3.70 ERA but his 4.82 FIP and 4.61 xERA are notably higher. The right-hander has been shaky lately with a 5.50 FIP over his last seven starts.Â
Meanwhile, the Athletics boast a top-10 offense vs. righties this month. In July, the A’shave a .346 wOBA (7th), 120 wRC+ (7th), and .255 ISO (1st). The offense was clicking before the All-Star break and can keep it going in this second half.Â
Take the Athletics to win and lead after five innings. There’s some good value on both moneylines as the visiting squad.Â
