Welcome to the MLB Best Bets and Betting Picks for May 23! After taking the weekend off to watch my younger brother get married, congrats to Nathan and Inga Wagner on that by the way! I am back in the saddle for a full slate of MLB today and looking forward to all the action and helping everyone stuff the wallets. The season is still young for me in the MLB but so far we are treading water, lets get back into some green numbers!

MLB Best Bets for May 23

Miami Marlins at Colorado Rockies

Eury Perez is getting his third start as a Miami Marlin tonight and the early returns have been promising. He is holding down a 2.79 ERA with 13 strikeouts and a 1.03 WHIP which ain't too shabby for a 20 year old starting pitcher. Tonight he faces the toughest challenge yet though as the Marlins are in Colorado for the 2nd game of their series against the Rockies. We all know about Coors Field at this point and the Rockies score 5 runs per game at home this season which is 7th in the MLB. I think Perez has the advantage over Austin Gomber in the pitching matchup though as Gomber has been a special kind of bad at home this season. In 5 starts at home Gomber has allowed 23 earned runs in 23.2 innings pitched while allowing 32 total hits. That makes me want to bet the 1st 5 innings Money Line on the Marlins tonight as the value is very fair and they have the better lineup as well.

Pick: Miami Marlins 1st 5 Innings Money Line (-120 on BetRivers)

Texas Rangers at Pittsburgh Pirates

Last night we got to witness Luis Ortiz throw 7.2 innings and hold the best offense in baseball statistically to just 2 runs, what a world! While I loved watching it as a Pirates fan I am realistic when it comes to stats and trends and I know that the Rangers won't be held down for long. In fact tonight their team total runs prop is 4.5 and I am going to smash the over. Rich Hill will make the start for the Pirates tonight and overall he is doing fine but at home his ERA is 5.25 on the season and he has allowed 31 hits in 24 innings of work. I don't think facing an offense that scores 6.4 runs per game is going to be what the doctor ordered for the veteran left hander so give me the Rangers to score 5 or more runs tonight against the Pirates.

Pick: Texas Rangers Team Total Runs Over 4.5 (-115 on DraftKings)

Oakland Athletics at Seattle Mariners

Well things definitely escalated quickly in Game 1 of this series as the Mariners beat the A's 11-2, and things really got out of hand. I see a lot of the same happening tonight although Marco Gonzales isn't my favorite person to bet on right now. To his credit though he has been better at home with a 4.76 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 17 innings of work. He will get the advantage of squaring off against Luis Medina though who has been a gas can lately and the team behind him is lacking in offense scoring just 3.63 runs per game this season. That is the 3rd lowest average of runs per game for those keeping track at home. I like the Mariners to win this game at cover the spread so their is that but how about another leg to make this a same game parlay? Jarred Kelenic is -180 to record just one hit and given the season he is having I think those odds are generous. Kelenic is hitting .297 after last night's 3 hit game and that gives him 8 hits over the last 5 games. To expand further even, in the month of May Kelenic has played in 19 games thus far, he has a hit in 17 of those games and you're telling me he can't get one against the lowly Oakland A's? Combine the Mariners -1.5 and Kelenic to get a hit and you have a saucy +180 SGP, sounds good to me!

Pick: Seattle Mariners Run Line -1.5 (-105 on DraftKings)

Pick: Jarred Kelenic Over 0.5 Hits (-180 on DraftKings)

Same Game Parlay of Mariners -1.5 and Kelenic Hit (+180 on DraftKings)
