MLB Best Bets and Betting Picks for June 25
Friday’s MLB Best Bets were a rough go. The Guardians were handed a beating and Kyle Gibson was pulled after three innings and just four strikeouts. There was a little optimism Baltimore would allow him to go back out which kept the strikeout props alive, but alas they did not. And to add salt to the wound, the Athletics and Blue Jays pushed the over/under by scoring nine runs exactly. Such is life sometimes with sports betting and we push forward. Sunday’s slate gives us 15 games to choose from with all 30 Major League Baseball teams in action, including the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals hitting leadoff at 10:00am ET on ESPN from London. I will have a couple bets at the very bottom of the article for that matchup. One will only be for a half-unit because I feel the sportsbooks are a bit reactionary to Saturday’s game. But we have some great pitching options on the slate with Yusei Kikuchi looking to get some run support in Toronto and Zack Wheeler looks to tame the NL East rival, New York Mets. As always you can consults the MLB DFS Projections, MLB Weather Center, and MLB Vegas Odds before locking in your tickets. Here are the MLB Best Bets & Betting Picks for Sunday, June 25th.
MLB Best Bets for June 25th
Los Angeles Angels at Colorado Rockies
I won’t be chasing the over/under Coors Field effect in this one. But I do still want to take advantage of Austin Gomber who has a bloated 9.40 ERA and a 2.91 HR/9 at home. He doesn’t strike out a ton of hitters while he does walk quite a few as well. The Angels almost came away with a win Friday night until the Rockies hit a clutch grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Halos followed it up on Saturday by dropping 25 runs on the Rockies including 13 in the third inning. With Gomber on the mound and wishing he could pitch anywhere else in the Western hemisphere, I’ll take the Angels to close out the series with a win.
Pick: Los Angeles Angels Moneyline (-146 FanDuel Sportsbook)
New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies
I always love a good revenge game narrative even if Zack Wheeler has faced his former team plenty of times now. But he’s clicking on all cylinders and looks outstanding. Wheeler has allowed just one earned run in his last three starts which have all been wins for the Phillies. The Mets are sending Carlos Carrasco to the mound who has a 6.34 ERA, a 2.04 HR/9 and he hasn’t pitched into the sixth inning in any of his last three starts. I like the Phillies to win this game comfortably on Sunday.
Pick: Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 (+110 DraftKings Sportsbook)
Oakland Athletics at Toronto Blue Jays
Yusei Kikuchi isn’t necessarily a world beater by any means and he is due for some regression when you compare his 3.97 ERA to his 4.90 xERA. The good news is that the Athletics are one of the worst teams in baseball against left-handed pitching and Kikuchi has shown that he seems more comfortable pitching at home. Luis Medina takes the mound for Oakland and he doesn’t necessarily strike fear into opposing hitters with a 7.01 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP. And if the Toronto bats can chase Medina from the game then they could really pour it on later as Oakland has one of the worst bullpens in baseball.
Pick: Toronto Blue Jays -1.5 (-137 FanDuel Sportsbook)
Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals
The Cubs and Cardinals put up ten runs on Saturday with Chicago putting up nine of those runs. The over/under for Saturday’s game was 14 so the line opened at 12 for Sunday’s matchup (It has been bet down to 11.5 on DraftKings). This is still incredibly high but let’s keep in mind, the Red Sox and Yankees put up 30 and 20 runs in their two games in London back in 2019. It may be difficult for the Cardinals to bounce back on Sunday with Marcus Stroman who boasts a 2.28 ERA on the season and hasn’t allowed a home run in his last five starts. On the other side, the Cardinals will be starting Matthew Liberatore, who has allowed 15 earned runs in 19 innings of work. The Cardinals bullpen also has the 14th-highest ERA (4.07) while the Cubs have the ninth highest (4.24) so if and when the starters get pulled we could still see some offensive output. This isn’t necessarily a wager that deserves a full unit. If you can, maybe just go for a half-unit to get a little action on a game in the morning.
Pick: Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals Over 11.5 Runs (+100 DraftKings Sportsbook) – 0.5U
Pick: Matthew Liberatore Under 3.5 Strikeouts (-128 FanDuel Sportsbook) – 1U
