MLB Best Bets for June 2

Chicago Cubs at San Diego Padres

Don't look now but the Padres offense is starting to heat up along with the weather as we head into June! San Diego heads into this series with Chicago having scored 20 runs in their previous 3-game series with the Marlins and will look to continue that momentum tonight against Jameson Taillon. The Cubs starting pitcher just isn't that guy anymore as if he ever was he certainly isn't this season. He holds an ERA of 8.04 through 31.1 innings of work and a 1.69 WHIP. More recently in his last 3 starts he has allowed 14 earned runs over 11.2 innings on top of 19 total hits. The Padres looking hot as they do should have no issue getting after him early on in this game. San Diego also has an implied run total of 4.67 in tonight's game which is over the line the sportsbooks have put out their tonight. Let's lay some cash on the Padres and hopefully watch the fireworks continue in this offense.

Pick: San Diego Padres Team Total Runs Over 4.5 (-120 on DraftKings)

Pick: Juan Soto Over 1.5 Hits/Runs/RBIs (-120 on DraftKings)

Los Angeles Angels at Houston Astros

Right here is the big ticket pitching duel on tonight's MLB slate as Shohei Ohtani goes toe to toe with Framber Valdez! Still not sure why Valdez got bumped from yesterday but assuming all is fine with him I am not too upset because we get to watch this matchup. Through 11 starts this season Ohtani has had 7 starts in which he allowed 1 earned run or less while racking up 57 strikeouts in those games. Now there have been some games where the star has struggled but those are uncommon and not something to bank on. On the other end is Valdez who enjoyed quite the month of May as he allowing just 8 earned runs on 33 innings of work for an ERA of 2.18. The strikeout numbers were also impressive as he sat down 40 batters during that stretch. Given all these numbers I am thinking the first 5 innings of this game could be a pitchers duel so I am betting on the opening part of this one to go under the total.

Pick: Los Angeles Angels & Houston Astros 1st 5 Innings Under 4 Runs (-105 on BetMGM)

Cleveland Guardians at Minnesota Twins

The first game of this series went a little nutty as the total went way over but tonight I see a different outcome. There are several factors including the injuries that were piling up for the Twins last night as Byron Buxton, Carlos Correa and Max Kepler all left the game last night with various issues. Will they be back in tonight, I'm not sure as lineups aren't out yet but its certainly worth paying attention to. Then there's the fact that the Guardians have one of the worst offenses in baseball this season scoring just 3.68 runs per game. This has led to them going under in 63% of games so far this season, the 2nd highest rate in the MLB. The Twins also go under more often than not, hitting that line 53.7% of the time. Lastly the pitchers on the mound tonight aren't slouches as Aaron Civale and his 2.84 ERA goes up against Bailey Ober and his 2.68 ERA. Over all of those variables it makes sense to take the under in this game tonight.

Pick: Cleveland Guardians & Minnesota Twins Under 8.5 Runs (-120 on BetMGM)
