Cade Cavalli MLB Pick: Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+110)

Cade Cavalli has looked incredibly sharp in the Nationals' rotation lately. He is missing bats at a high clip, turning in a 25.4-percent strikeout rate and a 10.3 K/9 over his recent outings. He has been a super steady option for over bettors too, hitting this number in half of his ten starts so far. Tonight, he gets a great matchup against a Miami Marlins lineup that is starting to expand the zone way too much against righties. Miami has a decent 20.9-percent strikeout rate on the full season, but they are sliding fast, striking out at a 21.5-percent clip over the last two weeks. Getting plus-money (+110) on a hot pitcher against a fading lineup is a spot we have to take.

Joe Ryan MLB Pick: Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+115)

Joe Ryan has been an absolute weapon for Minnesota, leaning on his high-spin fastball to rack up a 27.5-percent strikeout rate and a 9.8 K/9 mix. He has already cashed the over on this line in six of his ten starts this year, and today he draws a massive matchup against the Chicago White Sox. Chicago has been a dream target for right-handed pitchers all year, striking out at a massive 24.4-percent clip (2nd highest in baseball), and they haven't gotten any more disciplined lately, sitting at 23.6-percent over the last 14 days. Ryan should absolutely dominate this zone tonight, making this plus-money price (+115) a massive priority for your card.

Ty Madden MLB Pick: Over 3.5 Strikeouts (-135)

Ty Madden is a really fun young arm to watch for Detroit right now. He is carrying a huge 27.9-percent strikeout rate and a 9.5 K/9 through his first few appearances, sailing over this low total in both of his big-league starts. He is facing a Tampa Bay Rays team that is usually pretty disciplined (19.2-percent K rate vs. righties on the year), but a line of 3.5 just asks way too little of a guy with Madden's pure stuff. Even if the Rays put up a fight and put the ball in play early a few times, Madden has more than enough swing-and-miss utility to find four easy punchouts before his night is done.

Griffin Jax MLB Pick: Under 4.5 Strikeouts (+110)

This is entirely a situation-based play against Griffin Jax, and the plus-money value on the under is just too good to pass up. Jax is transitioning from the bullpen back into a starting role, and the Rays are building up his stamina with extreme caution. His pitch count has capped out at just 66 pitches over his three starts so far, and he is coming off a scary situation where he had to leave his last outing after just two innings after taking a line drive off his body. Because his workload is so tightly managed as he gets built up in the rotation and shakes off that early exit, accumulating five punchouts is an incredibly tall order. He faces a Detroit Tigers team that is striking out at a high 24.0-percent rate over the last two weeks, but lineup volatility doesn't matter much if a pitcher isn't allowed to stay on the mound long enough to pile up deep stats. Take the under and enjoy the plus-money value.

We highly recommend staying far away from Eduardo Rodriguez's strikeout over today. On the surface, it looks tempting because he has cleared his line in seven of his ten starts, but he is fundamentally a pitch-to-contact guy carrying a low 18.0-percent strikeout rate and a 6.7 K/9. Today, he has to deal with a Los Angeles Dodgers offense that completely destroys left-handed pitching. The Dodgers do not chase out of the zone, holding a low 20.1-percent strikeout rate on the year against southpaws and a tiny 19.5-percent mark over the last two weeks. Rodriguez needs teams to expand the zone to build up his strikeout counts, and against a hyper-disciplined Dodgers team, his ceiling is almost non-existent. Save your money and pass on this one.
