When hunting for successful MLB stolen base picks today, targeting the right pitcher is half the battle. The following list is made up of the day’s starting pitchers who have allowed the most stolen bases this season.

 

 

 

Catchers Allowing the Most Stolen Bases

The final piece of the puzzle for finding the best stolen base predictions involves looking behind the dish at catcher pop times and throwing accuracy. How many times teams attempt to steal a base on a particular catcher is a strong indicator of who we expect to see doing the most running today. The following backstops have the lowest Caught Stealing% with a minimum of 10 SB attempts against them.

Locking in the best stolen base predictions means finding the absolute perfect storm of a high-on-base runner and a weak battery. This should be an interesting day as the odds are not really favoring stolen bases today. Usually, we have a lot more options of +300 or less. Not the case today, but here are our top two MLB stolen base picks today for Saturday, July 25:

Favorite Bets: 

Zach Neto, Los Angeles Angels (+282)

We have to go back to Neto today. We HAVE to. He was caught-stealing last night so we know he’s staying active on the bases and today is an even better matchup against lefty Robbie Ray. Neto is posting a .381 wOBA against southpaws this season and Ray, who has allowed 17 stolen bases on the season, has spent the last several starts being circled by baserunners, posting a 1.43 WHIP over his last four starts. Neto is plenty aggressive and the Giants catchers have just a 22.4-percent caught-stealing rate. 

Longshot: 

Jeremy Pena, Houston Astros (+445)

You can go for those shorter odds on Elly De La Cruz if you want, but I much prefer to fish in a deeper pond. Pena is in an interesting situation. White Sox righty Sean Burke is slow to the plate and the right-hander has allowed 16 stolen bases on the year. His catcher sport a cumulative 25.5-percent caught-stealing rate which isn’t terrible but still below-average. Pena has elite-level sprint speed and posts a .369 wOBA against righties. Burke, by the way, also has his struggles against same-handed hitting. I’m throwing a unit on him.
