Best MLB Stolen Base Picks Today:
Locking in the best stolen base predictions means finding the absolute perfect storm of a high-on-base runner and a weak battery. Here are our top two MLB stolen base picks today for Friday, May 22:
Favorite Bets:
Corbin Carroll, Arizona Diamondbacks (+284)
Carroll’s 85.7-percent stolen base success rate should shine through against Rockies righthander Tomoyuki Sugano, who has allowed seven stolen bases this season and the Rockies’ catchers’ sub-20-percent caught-stealing rate. Arizona has been one of the hottest-hitting teams over the last week, drawing walks and getting on-base at a 38.2-percent clip, and Caroll has been leading the charge with his .540 wOBA in that span. He also handles soft righthanded pitching extremely well (.355 wOBA) while Sugano allows lefty hitters t post a .405 wOBA against.
Carson Benge, New York Mets (+340)
While most will look to Juan Soto with his “more sensible” odds, I’m going to look at the lefty-swinging Benge who has been entrenched atop the batting order for some time thanks to some spectacular on-base numbers. In fact, over the past seven days, Benge has a .371 wOBA with a .400 OBP. He doesn’t draw a ton of walks, but he also doesn’t strike out, posting a .429 BABIP. He’s hit safely in six-straight games and 10 of his last 11, while posting six multi-hit performances in that span. Marlins righthander Eury Perez has allowed a league-high 17 stolen bases this season. With Benge posting a 88.9-percent success rate on the basepaths and the Marlins backstops combining for just a 12.1-percent caught-stealing rate, this presents as a strong opportunity for us.
