Rangers vs. Padres Predictions, Picks, Odds & Starting Pitchers: SNB

Closing out not just a weekend, but the 4th of July weekend, is Sunday Night Baseball featured on ESPN. While it’s the marquee matchup we’re already used to each week, the later in the season it gets, the more meaningful they feel. Therefore, we’re here to add to it with our best Rangers vs. Padres predictions.
We also know that fans in Texas and California don’t have legal sports betting to make the most of the best bet from our Rangers vs. Padres predictions, so we’ve also shared a guaranteed PrizePicks Fantasy sign-up bonus!
Rangers vs. Padres Predictions For ESPN Sunday Night Baseball, 7/6
It’s also worth noting that with this being the final Sunday Night Baseball before the All-Star break, this is the second game of an SNB doubleheader! Both will still be on ESPN, and this one follows the Cardinals vs. Cubs NL Central rivalry.
As for this later Rangers vs. Padres matchup, it’s one that features a matchup on the mound that should even have fans outside of these teams interested. Texas starter Jack Leiter may not exactly be a household name, but he’s not the one that will be garnishing most of the attention.
Opposite him is an absolute stud in San Diego’s Yu Darvish; however, this expected start would be his first of the season due to injury. So, while he is undoubtedly elite, he certainly won’t be in midseason form.
With that in mind, we’re going to focus on a different aspect of the game with a player prop elsewhere for the best bet from our Rangers vs. Padres predictions.
Texas Rangers: The Vanderbilt Duo
After veteran lefty Patrick Corbin got his start pushed up to yesterday’s game, the Rangers are now displaying their Vanderbilt duo. The Nashville school was producing pitchers like crazy, and Texas had Kuamr Rocker on the mound to begin this series back on Friday. It wasn’t enough for a win, so a different former Commodore will look to close the series differently.
Jack Leiter is in his second season with the Rangers, and this will be his first career start against the Padres. Both he and Rocker haven’t exactly been the Paul Skenes-caliber studs that they were in college, and Leiter even wrapped up last season in the bullpen. He’s yet to record a win in above five weeks, so this could be big for his confidence.
San Diego Padres: Yu Darvish’s Season Debut
As mentioned, the Yu Darvish return that is expected tonight would be his first start of the 2025 season. However, he may be in better form than some may think given a starter that has been on the long-term IL. Darvish will be coming off a simulated game back on Tuesday that saw him throw 64 pitches.
While that still differs from real-game action, as a premier starter that has been in his fair share of Cy Young races, he should be able to hit the ground running better than most. He finished last season with a 7-3 record and 3.31 ERA, and in his last start against Texas, he allowed just three hits and recorded nine K’s.

Rangers vs. Padres Best Bet: Manny Machado Over 1.5 Total Bases (Target Player Projections At PrizePicks)
We said that when it came to the best bet from our Rangers vs. Padres predictions, we were going to avoid the variability that comes with Yu Darvish. So, while it may be an approach many fans are far too familiar with, we are indeed going to focus on Rangers young starter Jack Leiter getting the call.
If there was ever a guy in San Diego that needed to get back on track heading into this series, it was Manny Machado. It was quite a struggle on the road the past two series, so having the extremely rare two days off before Friday’s series opener was much needed for the stud third baseman.
Since leaving the Orioles in Baltimore for the opposite side of the country, he’s been as consistent as it gets. Even with his slump during the week, he still leads the Padres in total bases, and slugging percentage. Of course, opening this series by going yard helped with those numbers.
This isn’t to entirely pick on Leiter, but at the end of the day, he’s still just 4-5 on the year with a 4.29 ERA. Along with him losing three straight starts recently, we’re locking in Manny Machado over 1.5 total bases (use his player card at PrizePicks) as the best bet from our Rangers vs. Padres predictions.
Rangers vs. Padres Injury Report & Starting Pitchers
As far as Rangers vs. Padres injury news goes, Texas' most notable concerns are Wyatt Langford, Joc Pederson and starter Tyler Mahle. In San Diego, with a Yu Darvish return, they’re as healthy as it gets outside of fellow starter Michael King. Speaking of Darvish, here are the expected Rangers vs. Padres starters for tonight:
- Texas Rangers starting pitcher today: Jack Leiter (4-5, 4.29 ERA)
- San Diego Padres starting pitcher today: Yu Darvish (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
