Mets vs. Yankees Predictions For Sunday Night Baseball

Given how classic a Mets vs. Yankees rivalry is, there have been even more ways to wager on the series than we generally see. For example, as early as Thursday of last week, there were Mets vs. Yankees odds for an overall series winner as if it were a playoff series.

As if there weren’t already enough moving parts and storylines to discuss with a Subway Series, we’ve got a Sunday Night Baseball matchup that features a battle of lefties. Lifetime Met David Peterson is going to duel a brand new Yankee - Max Fried. On paper, along with this game in the Bronx, it’s no shock to see Aaron Judge and company favored tonight.

While that is certainly understandable, the best bet from our Mets vs. Yankees predictions is going to focus on not just a winner.

New York Mets: Soto Strikes Back?

Heading into this series on Friday night, Juan Soto going back to the Bronx for the first time since going to the cross-town rivals this offseason meant that we knew boos would ensure. The Yankee faithful did not disappoint, and with guys like Aaron Judge not batting near Soto, the theme of his season continued - walks.

He did so three times in the series opener, and as for yesterday’s afternoon matchup, Soto somewhere “struck back.” He scored the Mets’ second run of the game to take the lead, which they ultimately won in the top of the ninth inning, 3-2. However, he still went just 1-for-4 with a strikeout and another walk.

New York Yankees: Max Fried’s Sizzling Start

We mentioned that the starter for the Yankees tonight was new to the Bronx Bombers, and that’s lefty ace Max Fried. Well, Gerrit Cole will have something to say about that title when he gets healthy, but in his absence, Fried has filled that role and passed with flying colors, impressing his new squad for sure.

While wins and losses aren’t all that matters when it comes to analyzing pitchers, seeing Fried start 6-0 this year is still nothing to ignore. It’s the completely opposite start his former team - the Atlanta Braves - got off to as well. In his nine total outings, he’s racked up 52 strikeouts, and while that’s not record-breaking, maintaining a 1.11 ERA is even more notable.

As expected with a stud like Max Fried on the mound and at home, he, Aaron Judge and company are favored for Sunday Night Baseball - here are the latest Mets vs. Yankees odds at DraftKings Sportsbook:

Mets vs. Yankees Best Bet: Aaron Judge Over 1.5 Total Bases (-115 At DraftKings Sportsbook)

It was no accident that we made sure to point out Max Fried being a former Brave. With that being the case, he’s got more than his fair share of history against the Mets as a former NL East rival.

With that in mind, there’s no doubt that we’re focusing our Mets vs. Yankees predictions on him going lights out, right? Well, Fried hasn’t been the same strikeout machine since his forearm neuritis in 2024, as his average of just over 5.5 strikeouts per game this year indicates. Furthermore, the Mets have the fifth-fewest times this season.

While he can certainly still hit his strikeout prop, we see better value elsewhere - with Yankees slugger Aaron Judge. That’s right, value with the reigning AL MVP that oddsmakers know fans want to target game in and game out. This is an opportunity that virtually never happens, so we’re pouncing at it.

Aaron Judge speaks for himself at this point, winning two of the last three AL MVPs, and he’s showing no signs of slowing down. We all know what he’s capable of, so let’s just further focus on today’s matchup specifically.

He’ll have the luxury of facing a lefty in Mets’ starter David Peterson, which is where he’s thrived this year. Against southpaws this season, Judge is hitting .480, and that’s not even close to the most impressive number. For total bases props, the key stat to look at is slugging percentage - Judge has an astounding 1.280 slugging against lefties this year!

That isn’t even remotely sustainable for a whole season (maybe Judge proves this wrong?), but it’s still incredible. Furthermore, he was the Yankees best hitter against the Mets last year, with more amazing numbers of .444 average and 1.222 slugging.

On top of all that, he’s going to be as motivated as ever to show out on Sunday Night Baseball. Not only did he go 0-for-5 yesterday, but his strikeout ended the game. Look for a big bounce-back spot tonight and consider the best bet from our Mets vs. Yankees predictions of Aaron Judge over 1.5 total bases (-115 at DraftKings Sportsbook).

Mets vs. Yankees Injury Report & Starting Pitchers

We already noted the Gerrit Cole injury, so let’s start with the home team when it comes to the latest Mets vs. Yankees injury news. As for more recent/immediate concerns, the Yankees have everyday starters Jazz Chisholm Jr, Oswaldo Cabrera and Giancarlo Stanton on the IL.

In that same regard for the Mets, getting Jesse Winker back would help their everyday lineup, and the same would be said for their rotation with Frankie Montas. Speaking of rotations, as already noted, here are the Mets vs. Yankees starters for tonight:
