Mets vs. Giants Predictions For MLB Sunday Night Baseball, 7/27
As noted, this is indeed a coast-to-coast clash that we get to enjoy featured on Sunday Night Baseball, and it’s the start of the Mets mini west-coast road trip. After coming out of the All-Star break at home in Queens, it’s back-to-back California series for Francisco Lindor and company.
Interestingly enough, after this series and one against the San Diego Padres, the Mets and Giants meet once again next weekend, but in the Big Apple. That means more Mets vs. Giants predictions will be on the menu, but for tonight’s game on ESPN, it’s no surprise that New York will be featuring ace Kodai Senga.
We finally saw Giants starter Justin Verlander record a win earlier this week, but he won’t be ready to toe the rubber again and provide us with a household name matchup. In fact, the San Francisco rotation is in shambles right now, which we’ll break down a bit further coming up.
That also plays a factor in the target for the best bet from our Mets vs. Giants predictions, so let’s dive further into each team!
Â
Â
New York Mets: Making Moves In Queens
The Mets made arguably the biggest move this offseason by acquiring Juan Soto from cross-town rival New York Yankees (to the tune of $765 million), and they’re now being active heading into next week’s trade deadline. That began just prior to this series back on Friday in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles.
That was for a different Soto - Gregory Soto, who is a lefty reliever. The Giants have a bottom-five team OPS against southpaws this year, so that could prove beneficial to close out this series. It’s also worth noting that at the same time, teams have apparently been asking the Mets about Starling Marte.

Â
San Francisco Giants: Rotation In Shambles
It’s not just the Giants’ lineup struggling against lefties that is their only flaw. While their starting rotation has notable names like Justin Verlander, Logan Webb and even Robbie Ray, the drop-off after that is arguably the biggest in all of baseball. Most recently, they demoted the original projected starter for Sunday Night Baseball against the Mets.
That was Hayden Birdsong, who was demoted to Triple-A earlier in the week. San Fran called up Carson Seymour, who had a very brief time with the team earlier this year. Ultimately, it’s Matt Gage who is going to get the call for this primetime game, effectively making this a bullpen game for the Giants.

Â
Mets vs. Giants Best Bet: Over 8 Runs (Target His Player Card At Chalkboard)
You saw us mention that the Giants were having a bullpen game, even with this being their featured Sunday Night Baseball game. The news of Matt Gage starting came after focusing our Mets vs. Giants predictions on then-starter Landen Roupp rather than the Mets’ ace Kodai Senga. That was certainly no slight to Senga, as he’s clearly the better pitcher in either case.
Senga is elite for sure, but at the end of the day, he’s been hovering right around his strikeout prop line rather than having a clear trend to the over or under. His has also been set at 4.5 strikeouts, and in his last three starts, the New York starter has recorded either four or five K’s. So, we’re going to avoid that sweat.
Instead, we were focused on Roupp stepping up with the Giants' rotation issues, as he's done so recently. With the swap to Matt Gage and Senga not exactly racking up K's, if anything, we'd suggest just sticking with a simple over pick. After all, we saw the Mets score eight runs themselves in the series open.
Although the true best bet from our Mets vs. Giants predictions was nullified, you can see always find value thanks to the Chalkboard Fantasy player pick 'em cards!

Mets vs. Giants Injury Report & Starting Pitchers
As for Mets vs. Giants injury news, let’s start with the home team. That’s because it’s quite easy, as San Francisco’s more worried about sending guys down and recalling others rather than significant injuries. As of late, it’s only Matt Chapman (day-to-day) that is a notable concern.
In New York, the Mets primary concern is Jesse Winker. To reiterate what we’ve already noted, here are the expected Mets vs. Giants starters for Sunday Night Baseball tonight:
- New York Mets starting pitcher today:Â Kodai Senga (7-3, 1.79 ERA)
- San Francisco Giants starting pitcher today:Â Matt Gage (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
