Dodgers vs. Braves Predictions For Sunday Night Baseball, 5/4

For this pivotal weekend series between two of the National League favorites for the 2025 World Series - now that the Braves have picked things up - the Dodgers got it started by putting their best on the mound right from the tip.

That would be the two Japanese starters of Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki. It would be the trifecta if Shohei Ohtani was able to start pitching again, but until then, it means that we have Dustin May toeing the rubber for LA on Sunday Night Baseball. Opposite him will be Atlanta’s Bryce Elder.

With that not being a battle of aces and lineups that are absolutely stacked, surely we’re just going to take the over, right? Not exactly, but the best bet from our Dodgers vs. Braves predictions is focused on run production in some sense.

Los Angeles Dodgers: The Pitching Carousel Continues

It’s safe to say that the start to the Dodges’ season was nothing like that of the Braves, but like Atlanta, they still had injury concerns. They knew that they’d be without stud starters Clayton Kershaw (60-day IL) and Shohei Ohtani (only hitting), but the aforementioned Japanese duo has been doing their part.

Even still, the Dodgers recently acquired pitchers JP Feyereisen (waivers) and Ryan Loutos (trade). Of course, that doesn’t come with zero downside - LA also had to place Michael Kopech and Blake Treinen on the 60-day IL. Regardless, after seeing Yamamoto’s ERA go below 1.00 after seven starts back on Friday, they’re still in a great spot.

Atlanta Braves: Latest Ronald Acuna Update

Part of the Braves terrible start to the season can certainly be attributed to beginning the year without Ronald Acuna The former NL MVP is recovering from yet another torn ACL, and while the latest Ronald Acuna update isn’t necessarily dire, it’s also not exactly optimal.

After being expected to return in mid-May, all we know is that he has been able to take batting practice, and is only able to ease his way into running right now. Therefore, that original timetable should absolutely no longer be expected. However, as for positives, he is expected to have his first rehab assignments shared sooner rather than later.

Dodgers vs. Braves Best Bet: Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 Total Bases (Use His Player Card At Chalkboard Fantasy)

Look, we’re not making any ground-breaking news by focusing our Dodgers vs. Braves predictions on superstar Shohei Ohtani, but sometimes staying within the box is the right call. That seems to be the case with the generational talent facing the Braves.

Frankly, Shohei Ohtani is matchup-proof anyway, but there is definitely no reason to fade him when hitting against Atlanta. As awesome as it would be to also see him on the mound for Sunday Night Baseball, we’ll settle for a dynamic performance at the plate. After all, that’s what he’s done against the Braves far more often than not.

Let’s not forget that these NL foes already met once this season, which was the first series following the Opening Day set of series. That really seemed to spark Atlanta’s terrible start to the year, as they were rather easily swept by LA. That was certainly in large part thanks to Shohei Ohtani hitting .333 in that series with a .583 slugging percentage to boot.

Even still, those are pedestrian numbers for Shohei Ohtani. Last year against the Braves, he hit a remarkable .808 slugging percentage, which is the key stat when it comes to total bases props. Normally when you see that huge number, it correlates to just a few at-bats, but that was following 26 at-bats for Ohtani!

Along with a 2-for-3 night including a home run off Bryce Elder last season, we love Shohei Ohtani over 1.5 total bases (target more player picks for Chalkboard Fantasy lineups) as the best bet from our Dodgers vs. Braves picks.
