Where Group A felt very linear to plot out, Group B feels so much more up in the air. Each match from the first half of matches felt full of parody and could have gone multiple ways. One of the strongest and most evenly matched groups, Friday has the possibility for a wide range of outcomes and upsets. That being said, there are some clear quality differences in these teams and those quality differences will set them apart in my analysis. With another full slate of matches and top-tier play,  let’s dive in!

League of Legends DFS Breakdown

1st Place: JD Gaming (4-2)

Breakdown: I think the narrative here will be how much JDG will start to pay for their lack of clean execution in some of their matches. In reality, they should be at least 2-1 coming into Friday but could even be 1-2 in the record column. Hope has continued to be exceptional in his play but we have seen the Yagao/Kanavi mid/jungle pairing lack some spark. I also think that they didn’t rely on their star top laner (369) enough in their first set of matches. I want to see them fix some of those consistency issues on Friday so they don’t find an early exit in the knockout round.

Players to watch: Hope ($11,700/$7,800), Kanavi ($7,200)

Projected outcomes of matches: G2-Win, DG-Loss, EG-Loss

2nd Place: Damwon Gaming (4-2)

Breakdown: I think ShowMaker and Canyon have really started to hit their own stride. This pairing was key to Damwon’s last World Championship run and they will need to continue to place ShowMaker on playmaking champions to maximize the strengths of this team. Allow the players to control the pace of the game through champions who have an advantage in the early to mid-game. While they are technically skilled, their maximum potential comes from starving out opponents from the mid-game resources. This allows them to run away with the match.

Players to watch: Nuguri ($6,200), Canyon ($6,800), ShowMaker ($7,200), DWG Kia ($4,800)

Projected outcomes of matches: G2-Win, JDG-Win, EG-Loss

3rd Place: Evil Geniuses (3-3)

Breakdown: The next iteration of LCS heartbreak will be Evil Geniuses having a huge performance on Friday only to fall short with the match scores. Winning zero games in the first Round-Robin is almost a guaranteed death sentence because you need to not only run the table the following week but you need other matchups to fall your way too. The hope for NA is that their mid-laner (jojopyun) has looked serviceable and if they had their original ADC playing, they probably would have made it out of this group. I love the dedication to fights that they bring to matches and we saw a lot of times last weekend when they were so close.

Players to watch: jojopyun ($9,900/$6,600), Impact ($5,600), Kaori ($6,800)

Projected outcomes of matches: G2-Win, JDG-Win, DG-Win

4th Place: G2 Esports (1-5)

Breakdown: I think the European collapse continues. The LEC has really hidden behind the success of Rogue and the failures of the LCS in the group stage. G2 looked really outmatched in their games against JDG and DWG last week, only seeing real control over a game against EG. Teams have now figured out G2 in two international events this year. Shut down Caps, and the rest of the team struggles to make a difference. I think they continued to get exposed on Friday and follow Fnatic’s winless week two.

Players to watch: Caps ($7,000)

Projected outcomes of matches: JDG-Loss, EDG-Loss, DG-Loss
