LoL DFS Breakdown
Series #1: Nongshim RedForce vs. KT Rolster
Series Breakdown: I won’t make you wait long before telling you my matchup to keep your eyes open for. I actually have NS picking up this win because of the quality of their recent play. They had a rough 0-2 week last week but took on two of the top teams in the LCK (GEN and DK) which excuses the scorelines. Ghost is having a better split in terms of kills (43 through 13 games) and the team as a whole has the third-best first blood rate with over 60% of their games starting with a kill for them. KT has a solid team approach, no single person taking up too much of the focus but they do rely on Aiming to close out matches for them. I expect this series to get messy in some areas but I think we see our upset here.
Favorite Picks: Aiming (KT: $11,100/$7,400), Rascal (KT: $6,000), Life (KT: $5,200)
Value Picks: Ghost (NS: $10,500/$7,000), Dread (NS: $6,200), Bdd (NS: $6,600), Nongshim RedForce ($5,000)
Cann’s Match Pick: Nongshim RedForce (2-1)
Series #2: Kwangdong Freecs vs. Fredit Brion
Series Breakdown: These are two bottom-of-the-table teams for the LCK and there isn’t much hope for either of them when it comes to playoffs this split. For KDF, they just haven’t gotten the spark they thought they were going to get out of the former T1 ADC, Teddy. In reality, they have found what happens when you dump too much of your salary space into one player and you lack quality in other roles. For BRO, they have actually had a core to this lineup for a few splits now but it isn’t working. Someone like Lava has had brilliant performances against the top of the league but then can also find himself dying over and over again in the early game. I cannot describe how often in a BRO match that Lava is behind his lane opponent by whole items and completely irrelevant in the later stages of the game. I like Teddy for KDF to be able to carry most of the damage in this series, hence my 2-0 prediction.
Favorite Picks: Teddy (KDF: $11,700/$7,800), Hoit (KDF: $5,400), Ellim (KDF: $6,400)
Value Picks: Morgan (BRO: $5,000), Lava (BRO: $6,800)
Cann’s Match Pick: Kwangdong Freecs (2-0)
Series #3: FunPlus Phoenix vs. LGD Gaming
Series Breakdown: FPX is on the rise in terms of quality of play. I am fearful that most of their losses have been against much better teams and since their roster changes they will not have the same time to try themselves against better competition. LGD has been one of the worst LPL teams over the last two years and it has felt like they have a very disjointed roster. Pieces like Chelizi and Shadow as well as newly added ADC Assum are all good individually but putting it together as a team just doesn’t seem to be sticking. I am assuming we are going to see Summit added to the top lane now for FPX which means this will be the lane to watch Wednesday morning.
Favorite Picks: Lwx (FPX: $11,400/$7,600), Summit (FPX: $6,400), Care (FPX: $7,400), FunPlus Phoenix ($5,600)
Value Picks: Chelizi (LGD: $5,600), Shad0w (FPX: $6,000)
Cann’s Match Pick: FunPlus Phoenix (2-0)
Series #4: Victory Five vs. Rare Atom
Series Breakdown: There is some serious places where V5 could struggle in this matchup but in the end, they should 2-0 this series. The bottom lane of Photic and Ppgod still has to be in my top three bottom lanes across the major regions. Photic is an animal at the ADC and can turn the smallest advantages into the largest mid-game leads. Strive will look to control the mid lane for Rare Atom, which may be their key to win. V5 has used both Rookie and Dream in the middle lane which is always a red flag in terms of assessing a team’s true standings among the best. V5 will push the pace of the game and try to escalate to the late game as soon as possible.
Favorite Picks: Photic (V5: $12,000/$8,000), Dream (V5: $7,800), Ppgod (V5: $6,000), Rich (V5: $6,600)
Value Picks: Leyan (RA: $5,600), Strive (RA: $6,400)
Cann’s Match Pick: Victory Five (2-0)
