League of Legends DFS Playbook: LPL/LCK July 28
Wednesday has come and gone and brought us more standard results in the LCK but two misses in the LPL for us. We are seeing more and more that the LCK has a pretty firm cut-off for good teams versus those who are clearly not making the cut. In the LPL, parody is almost a defining quality. The middle-of-the-pack teams are seemingly trading wins and every team is still mathematically eligible for the playoffs, including the 0-11 Team WE. Again in the LCK, we see two huge favorites in Gen.G and Liiv Sandbox taking on two teams who have really struggled in the last two weeks of play. The LPL has two dangerous games where you could make a case for the underdog. So who do you take? Let’s dive in and find out!

League of Legends DFS Breakdown
Game #1: NS RedForce v Liiv Sandbox
Game Breakdown: I actually foresee this being the largest gap between two teams on the whole slate. I have spoken to the “Nongshim is bad” point to the point where I have grown tired of it. They have lost their last 8 series played and have only won six total games all split. Ghost and Bdd have caused some pretty lasting damage to their reputation with the quality of play this split and I don’t see a turnaround in sight. Prince is one of the highest producing ADCs in the LCK (112 total kills, 4.3 KPG) and I think LSB has a decent playstyle I like the control they bring to their in-game strategy.
Favorite Picks: Prince (LSB: $11,400/$7.600), Clozer (LSB: $7,200), Liiv Sandbox ($5,600)
Value Picks: Canna (NS: $5,200), Dread (NS: $5,800)
Cann’s Match Pick: Liiv Sandbox (2-0)
Game #2: Gen.G v DRX
Game Breakdown: I almost have sympathy for the story arc that DRX are on. Once one of the top teams in the LCK, they have suffered some pretty heartbreaking losses to both quality and bad opponents. Gen.G still has a lot to play for, most importantly the chance to take sole possession of 1st seed if they can close out the Summer Split undefeated. I think the largest gap here is actually going to be the Ruler/Deft matchup. Deft, one of the most decorated professionals in the LCK, is just not having the same impact in the bottom lane. Most ADCs have seen an uptick in productivity after changes to champion durability made the low-health champions they play a little tankier. The problem is that Deft really relied on short trades with explosive outputs of damage. Now that explosive output of damage does less overall, we have seen Deft be a little less of a factor, especially in the longer team fights late in games.
Favorite Picks: Chovy (GEN: $7,800) Ruler (GEN: $11,700/$7,800), Peanut (GEN: $6,800)
Value Picks: Kingen (DRX: $5,000), Zeka (DRX: $6,200)
Cann’s Match Pick: Gen.G (2-1)
Game #3: Ultra Prime v Invictus Gaming
Game Breakdown: Oddly enough, I have faith in Ultra Prime in a matchup on an LPL slate. That being said, it isn’t an overwhelming amount of faith. They have limited carry potential and both Cryin (who at one point was regarded as one of the best League of Legends players in the world) and Elk (a high production - low win player) both have had rather dry splits, with Elk leading UP in the kill department at only 73 (a less than 3 kill per game average). Fortunately for UP, IG has had absolutely no success in the middle and bottom lanes this split. I can see UP throwing a game and making the series look close, but if history is an indicator UP should dominate most of this series.
Favorite Picks: Cryin (UP: $7,600), Elk (UP: $8,000), ShiauC (UP: $5,600)
Value Picks: Zika (IG: $5,400), XUN (IG: $6,400)
Cann’s Match Pick: Ultra Prime (2-1)
Game #4: Bilibili Gaming v FunPlus Phoenix
Game Breakdown: This series should be pretty wild with both teams as the first two below the playoff line cut. BLG has had a ton of roster changes that have had a minimal impact (you might even say negative impact based on their 2 loss streak) and FPX has brought in the former C9 top laner, Summit, for some measured success. Both of these teams desperately need this win but it is more important for BLG who has a much more challenging conclusion of the split when they take on OMG and V5 in Week 9. Clid in the jungle should have a strong showing and I have been pleasantly surprised to see his output uptick in the last few weeks.
Favorite Picks: Lwx (FPX: $11,100/$7,400),Summit (FPX: $6,200), Clid (FPX: $7,200), FunPlus Phoenix ($5,000)
Value Picks: Crisp (BLG: $5,200)
Cann’s Match Pick: FunPlus Phoenix (2-0)
