Series #1: Damwon Gaming (-1600) v Fredit BRION (+800)
Series Breakdown: There are a lot of questions about Damwon and how they stack up against the top talent in the LCK and LPL. We see them play top-tier teams and lack decisive execution at different phases of the game. It feels like every lane needs to win the early game by a considerable margin to make sure they don’t let their opponents back into the game. Fortunately for Damwon fans, they aren’t playing a good team on Sunday morning. Fredit BRION lacks any player on their roster who is a legitimate carry piece and many times looks lost on what their objectives are. Canyon (DWG jungler) will be able to path for himself and counter-jungler rather than having to babysit his lanes. This should allow him to rack up more kills and kill participation (one of his strengths) and snowball this series quickly. The high-producing bottom lane of DK (deokdam/Kellin) should have great numbers in this series as BRO’s biggest weakness is their bottom lane and supporting that lane.
Favorite Picks: deokdam (DK: $11,400/$7,600), Nuguri (DK: $6,400), Kellin (DK: $6,000)
Value Picks: Lava (BRO: $6,400), Hena (BRO: $6,200)
Cann’s Match Pick: Damwon Gaming (2-0)
Series #2: Gen.G (-1600) v Nongshim RedForce (+750)
Series Breakdown: Plain and simple, Gen.G needs to roll out the rest of the split perfectly to lock up the number 1 seed in the LCK playoffs. Their 2-1 series loss to T1 means they have no room for mistakes as they finish up their last half of games. Gen.G probably has the best pair of damage dealers in the LCK (Chovy and Ruler) and their supportive roles have a great understanding of how to rotate around the map. NS can have flash-in-the-pan performances but we see that their carries (Bdd and Ghost) cannot create the same space and pressure that Gen.G’s can. NS continues to struggle with their team identity, so while I could see Gen.G possibly dropping one game (extremely unlikely), Gen.G have all the tools they need to wrap up NS.
Favorite Picks: Ruler (GEN: $11,100/$7,400), Lehends (GEN: $5,400), Gen.G ($5,600)
Value Picks: Bdd (NS: $6,200), Canna (NS: $5,400)
Cann’s Match Pick: Gen.G (2-0)
Series #3: LGD Gaming (+155) v Ultra Prime (-205)
Series Breakdown: This is my upset of the slate here. Ultra Prime is not some great LPL power, though the roster was built to be one, and they are only two series wins ahead of LGD. Interestingly, LGD is only two games behind in the games played W-L record category. Assum (ADC) has pumped a little life into this LGD side and their series as of late have been much closer than they were in Spring. In their last two series, they took both FPX and BLG to a full 3-game set while it has been 2+ weeks since a game win for Ultra Prime. I would not invest the heavy dollar amounts in UP, even if you think they will win the series because they are one of the most death-prone teams in the LPL. No need to lose points at a premium dollar amount.
Favorite Picks: Elk (UP: $8,000), Cryin (UP: $7,400),
Value Picks: Shad0w (LGD: $6,400), Assum (LGD: $7,000)
Cann’s Match Pick: LGD Gaming (2-1)
Series #4: Victory Five (-275) v Weibo Gaming (+205)
Series Breakdown: I love V5 against WBG on Sunday morning. WBG may be the most inconsistent team in the top 10 teams and they are currently the 7th seed. You have games where players like huanfeng and Angel disappear for entire games and their top laner (TheShy) can rack up 6+ kills in a 30-minute game. V5 is methodical and almost boring at times with their surgical approach to the game. Follow players like Rookie and Ppgod to see how the best players in their role do it. I would imagine at least one of these games will be a sub-30-minute win for V5 because of their ability to control the jungle and space in between the lanes. WBG will get caught over and over in this matchup.
Favorite Picks: Karsa (V5: $7,000), Rookie (V5: $11,700/$7,800), Ppgod (V5: $5,800)
Value Picks: TheShy (WBG: $5,600), huanfeng (WBG: $6,800),
Cann’s Match Pick: Victory Five (2-0)
