Thursday gave us our first real spicy upset of the week as DRX dropped their series to KT Rolster. This has huge implications to the LCK portion of our slate for Friday. Liiv Sandbox, a middle to bottom of the pack organization before this split, is primed to take sole position of 3rd place in the LCK while leaving more noteworthy teams like DRX and Damwon trailing behind them. In the LPL we have a slate full of top tier talent jockeying for positioning in the second-half of the split. JD Gaming, Royal Never Give Up, and LNG Esports all have visions of upper-bracket playoff runs in August but need to close out their regular seasons strong. These head-to-head matchups have a huge influence on final standings in the LPL. Big names playing for bigger stakes on Friday; let’s dive in!

DFS League of Legends Slate Breakdown

Series #1: Fredit BRION v Nongshim RedForce 

Series Breakdown: Even with the disappointments of this NS roster, there are really no excuses for not taking this series. In reality, you should look at the two lineups on paper and think that a previous World Champion accompanied by teammates with ranging domestic and international success should be able to handily beat the likes of Fredit BRION. Instead we have a collection of individuals who struggle to capitalize on the largest of advantages and frequently watch games split away from them. This is the main reason why I have my prediction set at a 2-1 final and honestly I can see a reality where NS lose this series. I would fade this series for the source of your captain pick because none of these players have the consistency to make that investment worth it.

Series #2: Liiv Sandbox v Hanwha Life Epsorts

Series Breakdown: I am actually shocked that this series isn’t more lopsided in the salary costs for the players. Players like Prince have had huge splits while Karis may be the only net-positive player I could suggest you rely on from HLE. LSB has found creative ways to get Prince in positive places in the mid game (he has the third highest kill count in the LCK at 83) without robbing the rest of the map of any agency. A lot of this comes from just the raw 2v2 power that Prince brings with his support, Kael. Even with the newer addition for HLE in the ADC role (Cheoni), I don’t think they have the consistent enough power to match this duo.

Series #3: Team WE v JD Gaming

Series Breakdown: This should be the fastest series of the slate. JDG is a legitimate contender to win the LPL and so much of it can be sourced back to the ADC switch of Hope joining the lineup. He has a +27% team kill share percentage and a 5.0 KDA. JDG won’t rotate him around the map in the early game, which may give Team WE pieces like Shanks and Biubiu the opportunity to try and find advantages in the solo lanes. This is really unlikely with the uptick in quality play out of Yagao. A once liability for JDG, Yagao has turned around the perception of himself as an overly aggressive player to a player who can use his mechanical skill to snowball a lane. This advantage that he can create (because of the attention that Hope draws) he can help with damage output in the late game. This makes the damage dealing responsibilities of Hope easier. This positive cycle is why we see JDG at the top of the LPL table and why it is going to be a likely 2-0 win for them on Friday.

Series #4: Royal Never Give Up v LNG Esports

Series Breakdown: This series isn’t a coin flip, but it will be closer than  history will suggest. Over the last few splits, LNG has proven themselves exceptional at beating bad teams but struggle against good teams. IF we were to apply this thought process directly to this matchup, we would expect LNG to lose pretty handedly. My pause is because of the jungle matchup between Tarzan and Wei. Wei has shown a few times in the past couple series where he can get outmaneuvered and forced to be far more reactive in his play. Being reactive as a jungler means you will always be down in farm, gold, and kill participation because you are late around the map. Tarzan’s playstyle is that he is almost first to a gank or an objective but can be exposed by junglers who are also proactive in reading him. I can see Wei being pretty good at reading his movements but it is also likely that LNG sneak one game away. The price on the LNG side make them great candidates to pick up in a lineup designed to lean into possible underdogs, so keep that in mind.
