League of Legends DFS Playbook: LPL/LCK July 10
Another Sunday, another LPL and LCK slate with massive implications on both playoffs and possible Worlds matchups. We have had most of our matchups play out how we thought this weekend, including the TES upset over RNG. Sunday brings top teams like Gen.G and DRX up against each other as well as EDG facing off against Victory Five. Each of these teams have their sights set beyond domestic championships and hopefully playing in November for a World Championship Title. Who are the players to grab? Who will be too expensive? Let’s dive in and break it down!
Series #1: DRX (+135) v Gen.G (-435)
Series Breakdown: This match falls in the category of slamming a team after they had a disappointing loss. Gen.G has to be frustrated at the inability to beat T1. They had options in their series but could not close out the match. They have the pieces and another damage dealer outside of Chovy with Ruler (54 kills and a 12+ KDA) but they have had issues closing out games. They are playing DRX who has lost some of their own shine after a series loss to Damwon, which speaks even more poorly of this LCK squad. I think the biggest problem with DRX is that they are too safe in early parts of the game. You have one of the best junglers in Pyosik and rarely does he have agency to consistently counter-jungle. Instead, we watch a slower and objective-based gameplay. Look for Gen.G to outpace the slower DRX and push the game into the late-game before DRX’s Deft and Zeka can get online.
Favorite Picks: Chovy (GEN: $11,700/$7,800), Doran (GEN: $6,200), Ruler (GEN: $7,600)
Value Picks: Pyosik (DRX: $5,800), Zeka (DRX: $6,200)
Cann’s Match Pick: Gen.G (2-0)
Series #2: T1 Esports (-1800) v Fredit BRION (+850)
Series Breakdown: This should be the biggest slaughter on the slate. Fredit BRION have continued to look mismatched against most LCK teams. T1 has another impressive series win another top LCK team, Gen.G. T1 won’t need to gameplan too much for this series and I would expect a messier series because they will rely on raw mechanical skill to beat BRO. Watch for both Gumayusi and Oner to expose their lane opponents, with Oner taking over the early game and the young ADC rolling though the late game.
Favorite Picks: Gumayusi (T1: $12,000/$8,000), Oner (T1: $7,400), Keria (T1: $6,000), T1 Esports ($5,800)
Value Picks: Lava (BRO: $6,400)
Cann’s Match Pick: T1 Esports (2-0)
Series #3: ThunderTalk Gaming (+105) v Invictus Gaming (-134)
Series Breakdown: Do not sleep on TT because of the weight of IG’s name. Invictus has been carried by one player (XUN) and has been let down by most other players. Yeukai and Wink have been mediocre at best with only 71 kills between the two of them. With these being the two core carries of your team, this is a terrible return and some of the biggest reasons why this former World Champion Organization is currently 1-5 on the split. ThunderTalk has actually put together a little more impressive start to their split. This is especially highlighted by the addition of Kepler in their last series who had 20 kills and 15 assists in 3 games played. Picking him up and betting on the breakout to continue may sneak you some lobbies because the pick rate of TTG will be extremely low.
Favorite Picks: XUN (IG: $7,200), Zika (IG: $6,400)
Value Picks: Kepler (TT: $10,500/$7,000), Ucal (TT: $6,800)
Cann’s Match Pick: ThunderTalk Gaming (2-1)
Series #4: Edward Gaming (+126) v Victory Five (-170)
Series Breakdown: This is the series I will be up to see. The defending World Champions against who I believe is the best team in the world right now. I think the Dream experiment should be over but beware, V5 has used two mid laners. Rookie is just the more veteran talent and has a very high talent ceiling. EDG should look to win through top lane play and get Flandre on a pick who will punish V5 for forcing team fights. I am not sure how well Flandre will do with this approach against one of the most consistent LPL top laners in Rich, so expect players like Photic and Ppgod to pick up huge late-game points in team fights.
Favorite Picks: Rookie (V5: $11,400/$7,600), Photic (V5: $7,800), XLB (V5: $7,000)
Value Picks: Viper (EDG: $7,200), Flandre (EDG: $5,800), Edward Gaming ($4,400)
Cann’s Match Pick: Victory Five (2-1)
