League of Legends European Championship

Summer Split / August 6th, 2022

As we are closing out on Week 7, we are looking at an almost clear view of who the LEC playoff teams are and who are the teams that are in the final fight for a postseason berth. While Team BDS are the only team eliminated from bracket play, three other teams will be joining them with their season ending next weekend. On the other side of the table, Friday brought us a matchup between the top two teams in the league and saw the MAD Lions stagger at the formidable Rogue. This matchup could easily end up as the Spring finals and each of their meetings have been some of the best European League of Legends from 2022. Onto the home stretch! Let’s dive in!

League of Legends DFS Fantasy Breakdown

Game #1: Vitality v Astralis

Game Breakdown: This match should be an interesting one. Vitality have navigated themselves into a tie for second place (9-5) but have crucial matches in their remaining schedule. Astralis is on the outside looking in in the playoff hunt. Both teams have a lot to play for but Astralis has everything to lose. The jungle matchup between Haru and Xerxe feels like the determining factor in this matchup. Haru has the pressure of the phenom Bo sitting behind him on the bench, so he continues to play better and better every week (he went 6-0-13 on Friday). Xerxe drives his team throughout the game in hopes that Kobbe and Dajor can scale quickly. Whichever jungler can set the tone first, should win this game.

Favorite Picks: Perkz (VIT: $11,100/$7,400), Alphari (VIT: $6,200), Haru (VIT: $6,400), Labrov (VIT: $5.600)

Value Picks: Kobbe (AST: $10,500/$7,000). Xerxe (AST: $6,200)

Cann’s Match Pick: Vitality

Game #2: BDS Esports v Excel Esports

Game Breakdown: XL needs this win in a terrible way. After a loss to G2 on Friday, XL are hanging on by a thread to the final playoff spot. Patrik continues to be their kill leader (50+ kills), the team continues to be slow to close out games. They once were the best early game team in the league, XL feels like they have moved away from that aggressive playstyle a bit in an effort to fix their late game issues. Unfortunately it appears this approach has led XL to be mediocre at all stages of the game. BDS should be a great team to try and work out the kinks. XL needs to draft their real carry (Markoon) to be the focus of the team and let the other pieces help deliver to the team when they need to.

Favorite Picks: Nukeduck (XL: $11,400/$7,600), Finn (XL: $6,800), Markoon (XL: $7,200)

Value Picks: Erdote (BDS: $4,400)

Cann’s Match Pick: Excel Esports

Game #3: Misfits v MAD Lions

Game Breakdown: The MAD Lions have some serious competition down the stretch, including Misfits. The Misfits have found their stride through the introduction of an aggressive jungler, Zanzarah. Zanzarah has taken on some of the load from his mid laner, Vetheo, to carry the team through individual playmaking. MAD will need to leverage the intuitive play out of their own jungler, Elyoya, to help protect his laners and allow them to scale into the late game. In late game team fights, the MAD Lions should have the advantage. They are the best team fighting team in the league since bringing on Nisqy as their mid. This is a tough game to call with a ton of confidence but if you are looking for a solid underdog to take, Misfits may be one to pick up for great upside on their cost.

Favorite Picks: Unf0rgiven (MAD: $11,700/$7,800), Elyoya (MAD: $7,400), Kaiser (MAD: $6,400)

Value Picks: Vetheo (MSF: $10,500/$7,000), Irrelevant (MSF: $5,000), Zanzarah (MSF: $5,400)

Cann’s Match Pick: MAD Lions

Game #4: SK Gaming v Rogue

Game Breakdown: Rogue took care of the hard matchup of the weekend with a win on Friday against the MAD Lions and SK should be a considerably easier opponent. I do like JNX (SK top laner) and his ability to control his lane and not require a ton of resources to pick up kill participation. Rouge will let Malrang (jungle) be aggressive around neutral objectives and pull the laners in to support him. Most teams don’t play this way but how Rogue lets their jungler dictate the game is one of the key reasons they are second in the league. Fading Larssen or Comp because of their price may be too high for how much they spread kills around the lineup but the supporting cast are great pickups in this matchup.

Favorite Picks: Comp (RGE: $12,000/$8,000), Malrang (RGE: $6,800), Rogue ($5,400)

Value Picks: JNX (SK: $4,800), Treatz (SK: $4,000)

Cann’s Match Pick: Rogue

Game #5: G2 Esports v Fnatic

Game Breakdown: The League of Legends version of El Clasico, Fnatic and G2 have defined what success should look like in Europe. Teams like Rogue, Mad Lions, and Misfits are all chasing the ghosts of these titans and while there have been times where both teams are down; it is still important when they play. I think this is a great place to pick up some underdogs (Fnatic) not because any stats back that up but because they are desperate for some success and on the verge of missing the cut. They put together a win on Friday but will need more wins strung together to make that final push. The Flakked/Upset battle in the bottom lane will be huge for the outcome of this matchup. Both of these ADCs can output massive damage in the late game but both rely on the support of their teammates to get there.

Favorite Picks: Flakked (G2: $11,100/$7,400), BrokenBlade (G2: $6,000), Jankos (G2: $6,600)

Value Picks: Upset (FNC: $10,200/$6,800), Fnatic ($4,600)

Cann’s Match Pick: Fnatic
