League of Legends DFS Playbook LCS August 20: Top DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Picks
It is the opening weekend for the LCS playoffs and we begin in the upper portion of the bracket. The winners of these matches move on to take the top two teams (Evil Geniuses and 100 Thieves) and the losers move into the losers bracket. Saturday and Sunday have two matches that have top players like Bjergsen, Johnsun, Berserker, and Luger all looking to carry their team to the next round. In the LCS, if you get bounced in the playoffs, you have no second shot to make the World Championships. Who here gets to Chicago for the LCS finals? Let’s dive in and find out!
Series #1: Team Liquid (-460) v FlyQuest (+320)
Series Breakdown: I think there is a real chance for Team Liquid to make a similar run to what Evil Geniuses had in the Spring Split and it will start on Saturday. They have seemingly begun to lean into pushing their advantage through their top laner, jungler, and mid laner. This will leave an opening for FlyQuest to try and get Johnsun (ADC) ahead but we have seen TL get better in their late game team fighting. This jump in their ability will be a determining factor against FlyQuest. I could see TL dropping one game possibly to a weird coin-flippy team fight in the late game but they are the better team in this series.
Favorite Picks: Bjergsen (TL: $11,400/$7,600), Santorin (TL: $7,000), Bwipo (TL: $6,400), Team Liquid ($5,200)
Value Picks: Johnsun (FLY: $10,500/$7,000), Aphromoo (FLY: $5,000)
Cann’s Match Pick: Team Liquid (3-0)
Series #2: Counter Logic Gaming (+155) v Cloud9 (-205)
Series Breakdown: Look out for this as an upset based on the odds but remember that CLG is the higher seed and split their regular season matchups against C9. I have not liked how inconsistent this C9 team has been, even after their major roster shake ups. They have great games where players like Fudge and Berserker can completely dominate their lanes and win the game for their team. Unfortunately I just don’t feel like Jensen and Blaber have had strong enough performances for them to be considered a top team. CLG is extremely linear in their approach to the game but we see them play as a team for their identified win conditions. Look for CLG to put a ton of pressure on the bottom lane and look to win through Luger.
Favorite Picks: Berserker (C9: $11,100/$7,400), Blaber (C9: $6,800), Jensen (C9: $7,400)
Value Picks: Luger (CLG: $10,800/$7,200), Dhokla (CLG: $5,800), Contractz (CLG: $6,400), Counter Logic Gaming ($4,600)
Cann’s Match Pick: Counter Logic Gaming (3-1)
