Ninjas in Pyjamas removes Mirage

Prediction/Narrative: CPH Flames win 2-1.

NiP are off to an impressive start with Brollan in the lineup, but they haven’t really been challenged yet. They are currently the second highest-rated team at the event, but they have only beat #46 Endpoint and #43 Bad News Eagles - two teams not necessarily expected to qualify for the Major. Brollan certainly brings more firepower to the table for the Swedes, but this lineup has still only played two maps together, both of which were on Ancient, so we don’t fully know what to expect from NiP. Es3tag looked serviceable on the AWP on Thursday, but that still does not feel like a permanent solution. REZ is in incredible form as the third highest-rated player at the event so far, but we have seen his form drop off a cliff time and time again with inconsistent performances. Copenhagen Flames are a solid team capable of pulling the upset, especially in a best-of-three format where their strong map pool can shine against a new roster. CPH Flames have managed a win rate of at least 62.5% on Overpass, Nuke, Ancient, Vertigo, and Mirage in the past three months. Jabbi has also looked great at this event as the seventh highest-rated player. I don't think NiP should be favored here and I see this as a coinflip at best, so I am happy to back Copenhagen as the underdog.

  • This is a best-of-three on LAN for PGL Major Antwerp 2022 Europe RMR B - Swiss Round 3 (teams with a 0-2 record). Losing team is eliminated.
  • Endpoint - Rating at event: raalz 1.10 | slaxz-  0.97 | Spiidi 0.92 | BERRY 0.70 | Marix 0.66
  • Endpoint - Rating past three months: slaxz- 1.12 | Spiidi 1.00 | Marix 0.96 | raalz 0.93 | BERRY 0.70

  • Sprout - Rating past three months: BOROS 1.15 | CRUC1AL 1.07 | Nertz 1.07 | Surreal  1.00 | MiGHTYMAX 0.96

H2H Data:

  • These rosters have never faced each other. The teams last faced in January 2022 when BERRY was not standing in for Staehr and Sprout won 2-1 (16-13 Vertigo / 10-16 Inferno / 19-16 Nuke). Slaxz- topped the leaderboards with a 1.31 Rating, while Marix led with 78 kills across three maps.

Map Projections:

Sprout removes Mirage

Endpoint removes Nuke

Sprout picks Dust2

Endpoint picks Vertigo

Sprout removes Ancient

Endpoint removes Inferno

Overpass is left over

Prediction/Narrative: Endpoint wins 2-0.

The most important thing to note here is that Staehr is sick and is not playing at this event, so the coach of Sprout, BERRY, is standing in. BERRY has played five series total in the past with Sprout and the team lost four of the five, so Sprout are not in a great spot accordingly. Sprout actually won this match-up last time, but all three maps were close with Staehr in the lineup. With BERRY filling in, things are sure to tilt in the favor of Endpoint, especially since Endpoint have solidified their map pool since then. Endpoint have at least a 50% win rate on Nuke, Mirage, Vertigo, Overpass and Ancient, and I expect a strong showing with them now that they are facing elimination. BOROS will be the best player on the server, and a good performance from him should be enough to lock in the win for Endpoint. As for Sprout, they are likely feeling defeated without their full roster, and I think this will be the end of their run of trying to qualify for the Major.

  • On Dust2, CRUC1AL leads Endpoint with a 1.07 Rating and 1.02 K/D ratio across 12 maps played in the past three months.
  • On Vertigo, BOROS leads Endpoint with a 1.25 Rating and 1.14 K/D ratio across 13 maps played in the past three months.
  • On Overpass, Nertz & Surreal lead Endpoint with a 1.10 Rating, while Surreal leads with a 1.13 K/D ratio across seven maps played in the past three months.
  • BOROS leads Endpoint with 24.8% opening duel attempts across 80 maps played in the past three months.
