CFB DFS Picks, Daily Fantasy Playbook & Schedule: Saturday, October 24th
Before we discuss top CFB DFS picks this week, let’s take a look at the slate. DraftKings has a 12-game main slate with only afternoon action. Meanwhile, FanDuel’s 14-game slate spans both the afternoon and night. For the write-ups, we’ll focus on top players and value picks for both sites. See our specific DraftKings and FanDuel core plays below. Here’s a look at the Week 8 CFB DFS picks.
CFB DFS Lineups: Top Plays
Michael Hawkins Jr., QB, West Virginia
DK: $9,700 | FD: $13,000
West Virginia’s dual-threat quarterback has entered the fade-at-your-own-risk category, especially on a slate without many top-tier options. Michael Hawkins Jr. is averaging nearly 40 DK points per game, and he has at least 35 DK points in 5 of 7 games so far. His DFS floor is usually high because of his running ability. Hawkins Jr. is averaging 107 rushing yards per game with 14 rush TDs already. He’s also involved in shootouts nearly every week because of WVU’s poor defense. This is the toughest test yet, on the road at TCU, but Hawkins can still put up numbers.
J’Koby Williams, RB, Texas Tech
DK: $7,900 | FD: $9,200
The Texas Tech backfield was previously a two-headed monster with Cameron Dickey and J’Koby Williams as the elite 1-2 punch. With Dickey out last week, Williams racked up 165 rushing yards and 2 TDs for 33 DK points as the lead guy. That role could continue this week with Dickey possibly out again with an ankle injury. Williams also had 114 yards on 20 total touches two games ago when Dickey left early.
Jeremy Payne, RB, TCU
DK: $6,500 | FD: $8,200
This top play comes with a disclaimer, as Jeremy Payne is questionable after suffering an apparent injury last week. If he plays, though, TCU’s running back gets a fantastic home matchup. West Virginia is allowing 5.5 yards per carry and 214.7 rushing yards per game in conference play. Both marks are among the worst in the country. It’s a smash spot for Payne, who could easily go for 100+ yards and a TD or two if he suits up.
Malachi Toney, WR, Miami FL
DK: $9,300 | FD: $11,600
Since Jeremiah Smith isn’t on the slate, Malachi Toney has the most slate-breaking upside of any receiver in action. Last week’s 46 DK point performance is evidence of that. Toney is averaging 126.3 receiving yards per game with 8 TDs across 6 games. The floor/ceiling combo warrants the expensive price tag, if you can fit him in. He’ll face a Pitt pass defense that ranks 116th in the country.
CFB DFS Lineups: Value Plays
Will Hammond, QB, Texas Tech
DK: $5,800 | FD: $10,100
Will Hammond’s stats haven’t been flashy this season. He’s averaging just 222.3 passing yards and 15 DK points per game with a pedestrian 6:5 TD:INT ratio. Even so, sometimes the matchup makes a value play stand out. Cincinnati is allowing the third-most passing yards per game in the entire country with a subpar defense overall. It’s an ideal situation for the Texas Tech offense, making Hammond an attractive value.
Raleek Brown, RB, Texas
FD: $7,000
On the FanDuel slate, Raleek Brown could emerge as a smash value. Hollywood Smothers is questionable to play, which may leave Brown as the lead back for Texas this week. He had 20 FD points with 67 rushing yards, 2 TDs, and 17 carries against Tennessee earlier this season when Smothers was sidelined. That can be a productive role against an inconsistent Ole Miss rush defense that’s been torched multiple times this season. Even if Smothers plays, Brown has been the more efficient runner lately.
Jordan Dwyer, WR, TCU
DK: $5,300 | FD: $7,700
After missing the start of the season, Jordan Dwyer has made an immediate impact for TCU since returning. The wideout has gone for 150 and 100 yards in two of the last three games. Of course, in between was a dud against BYU, but we can probably chalk that up to poor conditions and a tough opponent. Dwyer can easily get back to 100+ yards this week against West Virginia’s terrible defense. WVU allows the most passing yards per game in all of college football.
JV Gibson, WR, Cincinnati
DK: $5,400 | FD: $7,300
The Texas Tech vs. Cincinnati game could easily turn into a shootout with one of the slate’s highest totals. On the Bearcats’ side, JV Gibson is a cheap way to get exposure. Cincy’s top wideout has 65+ yards in 4 of the last 5 games and 18+ DK points in 3 of those. We’ll take it anyway, but there’s upside for more. Tech ranks 134th in the country in passing yards allowed per game.
