College Football Week 1 Friday PrizePicks

Quentin Johnston (TCU) OVER 17.5 Fantasy points & OVER 83.5 Receiving Yards

Quentin Johnston of TCU is one of next year’s top NFL wide receiver prospects and is a potential first rounder. They will be facing a Colorado defense that was ranked 90th last season in the pass by allowing 242.3 yards per game. This is also a new offense under Sonny Dykes and an offensive line has been bolstered and greatly improved for this season. As long as they can control the line of scrimmage and give the skill players like Johnson time to get down the field, we will see a lot of points put up and more consistency and targets to their Alpha receiver. Johnston was first-team All-Big 12 last season and ranks first in Big 12 history with a 20.4 yards per catch average for a player in his first two seasons. In nine games last season, Johnston led the Horned Frogs last season in receiving yards (634), yards per reception (19.2), and touchdown catches (six) plus he topped 100 yards receiving on three occasions, all in his final five games.

Hayden Wolff OVER 1.0 Touchdown

Wolff, a 6-foot-5, 235-pound redshirt sophomore won a three-player battle that also included former starter D.J. Mack and Notre Dame transfer Brendon Clark. He got his first start last season against Western Kentucky (ODU’s 7th game) and even though they lost that game they went on to win five straight and earn a berth in the Myrtle Beach Bowl. Overall Wolff played in 10 games and completed 159 of 253 passes for 1,933 yards and 10 touchdowns. Reports are that he has gained about 20 pounds of muscle in the offseason and is one of 10 starters returning on ODU’s offense. Virginia Tech has a weak pass rush which should open up the passing game for Wolff who threw for 280 yard plus in four of his last six games.

Chase Brown OVER 94.5 Yards

Brown’s performance last week against Wyoming was one that Illinois fan will remember for a long time. His 151 rushing yards were the most by any Illinois player in an opening game of a season since 1945. The 151 yards against Wyoming was the third most in his career– only behind the 200-yard games against Penn State and Charlotte in 2021. His 7.9 yards per carry against the Cowboys was also his third highest in a game during his career when he carries the ball at least 10 times. Brown will be facing Indiana and first-year Hoosier defensive coordinator Chad Wilt is well-aware of the stud running back. Brown ripped through the Minnesota defense for 147 yards last year and Wilt coached Minnesota defensive linemen in that game. Wilt watched as Illinois ran the ball 48 times compared to just 10 pass attempts in that game, so don’t be surprised if you see the same scenario tomorrow. Take the over on Brown and thank me later.
