#12 Alabama vs. Kentucky Predictions, Picks & Odds: CFB Week 2, 9/12
Alabama kicked off its 2026 season with a solid performance, but now the Crimson Tide are set to face their first significant challenge as they head to Lexington to battle Kentucky. The Crimson Tide are fresh off a dominant 48-10 win over East Carolina. The Wildcats, under new head coach Will Stein, also enjoyed a smooth start with a convincing 45-13 victory over Youngstown State.
Kentucky couldn't have hoped for a better beginning to the Will Stein era, as they scored touchdowns on five of their first six drives. However, the level of competition will be much tougher this Saturday, which sets us up for some exciting #12 Alabama vs. Kentucky picks.
#12 Alabama vs. Kentucky Predictions for CFB Week 2, Saturday, 9/12
Senior quarterback Kenny Minchey played great for the Wildcats in week 1, completing 18 of 27 passes for 301 yards and four touchdowns without any turnovers, which is certainly a promising sign. However, this matchup against Alabama will be completely different.
Plus, Alabama's depth of talent on not just defense but both sides of the ball makes it hard to worry too much about any potential home-field advantage in this one. With the current #12 Alabama vs. Kentucky odds having the Crimson Tide favored by 10.5 points, our #12 Alabama vs. Kentucky predictions believe that number seems a bit low.
#12 Alabama vs. Kentucky Expert Pick: Crimson Tide -10.5 (50% at Kalshi)
Will Stein is a great coach, and I fully see Kentucky being able to develop under his leadership in Lexington. The Wildcats showcased what they could soon consistently become in their opening game, and Minchey's impressive four-touchdown debut certainly sparks hope for the new era. Though, there's a significant gap between defeating Youngstown State and facing Alabama.
While the Crimson Tide may not resemble the dominant teams we've seen under Nick Saban, they remain a top-tier college football program with a considerable talent edge. Kalen DeBoer's squad has numerous players capable of making game-changing plays, and I believe this advantage will become increasingly evident as the game unfolds.
What really sways our #12 Alabama vs. Kentucky picks towards Alabama -10.5 is their defense. They completely stifled East Carolina, allowing just 10 points and 162 total yards. Although Kentucky's offense performed well against Youngstown State, this will be their first encounter with an SEC defense of this caliber.
Additionally, there's Keelon Russell to consider. The sophomore quarterback had a solid opener, completing 18 of 30 passes for 256 yards, but he didn't throw a touchdown. While that might raise some eyebrows, I found his ability to make plays with his legs quite promising. He rushed 13 times for 86 yards and a touchdown against ECU, which adds a significant dimension to Alabama's offense, especially if Kentucky's pass rush starts to apply pressure.
Kentucky does have the advantage of playing at home, and I expect the atmosphere at Kroger Field to be electric. We've seen how challenging this venue can be for ranked SEC teams, and Russell will be facing his first true road start. However, I don't believe that’ll be enough to tip the scales in their favor.
For Kentucky to win, or even just cover the spread, the Wildcats will need to turn the game into a low-scoring, physical contest while preventing Alabama from making big plays. This is a tall order against a Crimson Tide offense that is likely to improve as Russell gains more experience.
Ultimately, the difference between these teams lies in Alabama's versatility on offense. While Kentucky has the capability to keep the game competitive, especially under Stein's leadership, Alabama possesses too many avenues to secure a victory.
I don't expect the Crimson Tide to replicate the dominance of past teams, but they should be able to easily defeat Kentucky. Our #12 Alabama vs. Kentucky predictions expect Alabama to win by at least two touchdowns.
