Hallelujah...Week 1 of the NFL season is upon us! For those of you who never thought we’d get here with as weird and strange a year as 2020 has been, you can breathe a sigh of relief. However, there’s still a tricky matter at hand. See we here at Fantasy Alarm have provided #FANation with so many tools and pieces of content throughout the week that it might be tough to decide where to look and what data to use for building your DFS lineups or who to start or sit for your seasonal lineups. Well, that’s what the Match-Up Report is here to help with. Consider this piece your weekly one-stop-shop for getting all of the key info about each matchup for the week in a way that shows you all of the team's strengths and weaknesses over a variety of stat categories.

Below is a key that defines each stat category and how they are ranked. The color-coding that shows for each matchup is geared toward looking from an offensive player’s perspective. So the more green you see, the better that matchup is for an opposing offensive player, and vice versa the more red you see, the worse for an offensive player that matchup is that week.

*This first week’s data is based on final standings in the categories for last year. The Def vs. Pos categories use .5 PPR scoring for the points.

These two teams met in the playoffs last year and were two high-powered offenses last year as well. They did it two different ways though as the Texans were great in the run game while the Chiefs were great in the passing game. However, watch out for the Texans wideouts as the Chiefs were second-best against WRs last year in fantasy points.

On paper, this is a very tasty match-up for the Eagles as they were one of the better offenses last year as they ranked inside the top-15 for most categories while the Washington defense was fairly porous. Washington did add Chase Young in the draft to help the D-line and the Eagles have had issues with the offensive line staying healthy so far. Zach Ertz may just have a good day as the Football Team wasn’t good against them last year and dump-offs from Wentz may be coming his way.

The old NFC North rivals kick the 2020 campaign off with an interesting matchup from a scheme perspective. The Vikings are going to run, they had a top-five rushing attack last year, and the Packers weren’t much of an impediment to opposing running backs last year either. However, the Vikings were middle of the road in stopping the pass while allowing the ninth-most points to opposing wide receiving corps which plays into the Packers favor with the Aaron Rodgers-Davante Adams connection.

The Jags' defense is a shell of his former Sacksonville self from a few seasons ago and with Philip Rivers and company coming in, it might be a very interesting day for the Colts offense. The Colts defense got better as the year went on last year and they will be keyed on stopping the pass without Leonard Fournette or even Ryquell Armstead being on the roster at this point.

This one is a tale of two different approaches. The Bears want to stop you from scoring since they don’t score that much themselves and the Lions simply want to throw it over everyone. Before Stafford got hurt last year he was on pace for more than 5,000 yards but the Bears defense isn’t a great place to get back going on that pace to start the year.

Without Jamal Adams patrolling the defensive secondary this year, the Jets pass defense figures to be easier to beat than it was last year. Even with Adams back there they still gave up the seventh-most points to opposing wideouts and the 15th-most against quarterbacks. The new offensive additions for Josh Allen should have a nice day against their “in-state” rivals.

An entirely new offense for the Bucs with Brady, Gronk, Leonard Fournette, LeSean McCoy, and a couple of interesting draft picks will make this perhaps the most explosive game of the weekend. It’s an interesting match-up though as both teams ranked in the top-eight in DVOA last year but both allowed top-five fantasy points to wide receivers and with guys like Godwin, Evans, Thomas, and Sanders in play that likely doesn’t change this week.

Dallas had the best offense by total yards last year and a lot was through the air as they were one and two in passing yards per game and yards per attempt. The Rams are looking for a rebound year on offense and with some of the changes for the Cowboys' defense they may get off to a good start this year, especially Tyler Higbee who gets an intriguing match-up with the Cowboys giving up the eighth-most points to the TE last year.

It’s hard to read too much into the Steelers offensive numbers from last year without James Conner, JuJu Smith-Schuster, or Big Ben on the field for much of the year. The Giants are still rebuilding the defense and so with the full bevy of weapons in place in Pittsburgh, expect the Steelers to be a popular stack for Monday Night slates.

Earlier in the week it was a tougher matchup for Derrick Henry and the Titans’ rushing attack but now with Von Miller sidelined, there could be more holes for Henry. Denver was top-10 in the league in rushing plays last year and with the newly-acquired Melvin Gordon in the backfield, they may be running quite a bit again and the Titans were mediocre in stopping the run.
