Holding Out

Though it makes perfect sense, the news of JaMaal Charles impending holdout came as a bit of a surprise this morning. The Chiefs have lost 3/5 of their starting offensive line last year and Charles will turn 28 during the season. This will likely be his last big contract and thus he must strike while the other is hot. I wouldn’t discount Charles value in fantasy leagues just yet but I would bump up Knile Davis a few spots as a result.

Ace In A Hole

At one point last season it looked as if Jaguars WR Ace Sanders was carving out a nice little niche for himself as the Jaguars slot receiver. Instead he will miss the first four games of the 2014 season after being suspended by the NFL for failing a drug test. At 5’7” and 173 lbs Sanders was a long shot anyways to remain as an effective NFL WR but now it seems next to impossible. Sanders says that he will seek help for some “personal issues” while serving this suspension which further compounds any chance of him playing football in 2014.

Andre The Giant

Texans WR Andre Johnson visited the teams stadium on Monday afternoon to discuss his concerns with the teams front office. Reports say now that Johnson is expected to arrive at Texans camp when it opens on Friday. It makes a lot of sense for Johnson to report on time as he is set to be the focal point of the Texans passing game. Bill O’Brien will get a lot out of his passing attack and despite the lack of top shelf QB, the rest of this offense is quite talented. Considering Johnson racked up 109 catches for 1407 yards with three separate QB’s in 2013, he could match or possibly improve upon those numbers this season.

He Gone

The Broncos cut veteran TE Joel Dreessen today after he failed his physical due to lingering soreness in his left knee. Dreessen says that he will continue to work out and try to catch on with another team this season. He is likely done…

Cleared For Lift-off

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones has been cleared for limited practices this summer as he continues to recover from offseason surgery on his right foot. From all indications Jones will be a full go by early August and could even wind up playing in a couple preseason games. I still have Julio Jones as my #6 fantasy WR this season in my rankings.

Also cleared for practice is Ravens backup RB Bernard Pierce. Pierce has also lost about 7 pounds since last season in hopes of picking up some lateral agility and quickness. With Ray Rice’s status for the beginning of the season very much in Jeopardy, Pierce could play a large role in the Ravens offense in 2014.
