We are almost to June now so you should have a pretty decent idea of if your fantasy baseball team is set to compete or not. As always, injuries can change things in a big hurry if you lose the wrong guy, it could have a major impact on your fantasy baseball lineup. However, we have you covered not only with the news, but also with replacements. With a new week starting it is always great to take a look at our two-start pitcher article from Ivar Anderson here in case you need a pitcher, or the waiver wire article from Ray Kuhn to help fill those voids. Let’s dive in!

MLB Injury Report May 30

Brandon Woodruff – Milwaukee has been dealing with a lot of injuries to their pitching staff, so when Woodruff left the game on Friday it was a big concern. However, the ankle injury appears to be not serious, and Woodruff said that it was more precautionary than anything. The Brewers starter even expressed optimism that he would make his next start. While that might be a sure thing, Woodruff seems to have avoided a major injury.

Eloy Jiménez – The good news is that Jimenez started a rehab assignment for his hamstring injury. The bad news is that he was pulled from that game with a hamstring injury after hitting a single. The good news is that Tony LaRussa said that the expectation for him to return sometime in mid-June is still intact. For now, it looks like Jimenez will take a couple of days off and be back on the field in a couple of days.

Anthony Rendon – The Angels slugger was sent to the 10-day injured list with right wrist inflammation after being out since Thursday. Angels manager Joe Madden wasn’t exactly clear on a timetable for how long he might be out, but said it would be “a little bit of time.” That sure sounds like more than ten days by me, but hopefully Rendon won’t miss a heck of a lot of time.

Stephen Strasburg – He is making his way back to the Majors and he took a great step on Sunday as he threw five innings without giving up a hit and struck out six. Now, this was at Single-A so he should dominate, but it is always good to see him pitch well, and to come out of the start healthy. He will surely need a few more rehab starts but could be back by the end of the month.

Lance Lynn – Another rehabbing pitcher fared well as the White Sox hurler threw three scoreless innings and struck out three. This was at Triple-A and he will likely only need another rehab start or two before he is set to return. Look for Lynn to be back sometime in the middle of June.

Miguel Cabrera – The Tigers aging slugger will miss his second straight game on Monday with back tightness, and this does concern me a little. It is a good sign that they didn’t place him on the injured list right away, but he is also 39 years old, and injuries have derailed a lot of recent seasons. Again, given the fact that he wasn’t put on the IL means he should be back during the week, but if you have weekly roster moves you might want to put him on your bench this week.

Josh Donaldson – It has been a rough stretch for Donaldson with the whole Tim Anderson thing, then he tested positive for Covid, and now he has been placed on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. There hasn’t been any indication that this will be anything more than a couple of weeks on the shelf, so you shouldn’t have to be without him much more than another week.

Jacob deGrom – The Mets ace spoke to reporters on Saturday and said that he had been throwing from 135 feet but hasn’t gotten on a mound yet. He also said that he felt good and there have been no setbacks to this point. There is no timetable for his return at this point, but it sounds like the All-Star Break could be a realistic expectation.

Sonny Gray – The overperforming Twins starter was removed from his start on Sunday with right pectoral soreness. He was pitching extremely well before being unable to finish the game. He did try to pitch the seventh inning but was unable to stretch out enough to face a hitter. It is too soon for any timetable for how long he might be out, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Gray ended up on the injured list and missed a couple of starts.

Tim Anderson – The White Sox shortstop left the game on Sunday after fielding a ground ball and will be headed to the 10-day injured list with a right groin strain. He is getting an MRI and until we see the results it will be too soon to say how long he will miss, but the fact that he was placed on the injured list the same day that he injured himself to me means that he is going to miss more than those ten days. Keep your eyes on the news, but if Anderson misses a month, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised.

Kyle Freeland – He didn’t pitch well on Sunday allowing five runs in 5.2 innings on Sunday and then exited with an ankle injury. He had x-rays right away and thankfully they came back negative. He landed awkwardly after delivering a pitch in the sixth inning and was removed from the game. Despite the fact that the x-ray came back clean doesn’t mean he is out of the woods yet. Freeland could easily hit the injured list, and if he does that I would not stash him I would just cut bait and find another pitcher on the block.

Robbie Grossman – The Tigers 20/20 man in 2021 is not faring well at all and now he will head to the 10-day injured list with neck spasms after leaving the game early on Sunday. Perhaps a couple of weeks off will get his head straight and get his neck back healthy and he can start to hit as we expected this year. Given his .199 average and the fact he has no home runs you might not want to stash him if your injured list spots are filled.
