🏒NHL Picks, Predictions & Best Bets Today, 10/31
🔥 Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Montreal Canadiens Prediction
The Montreal Canadiens are returning home after a successful 4-0 road trip. Their home record stands at 3-2-1, and they have averaged just over 31 shots on goal in front of their fans. Meanwhile, the Penguins have struggled on the road with a 1-5-1 record and have been lacking solid goaltending. In contrast, Canadiens goalie Jacob Fowler has impressive stats, boasting a 1.54 goals-against average (GAA) and a .942 save percentage (SV%). On paper, Montreal is the stronger team, and if they can create enough scoring chances, they should secure a victory.
- Montreal Canadiens Money Line (-125 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
🔥 Calgary Flames vs.Colorado Avalanche Prediction
If everything unfolds as expected, it could be a long night for the Calgary Flames. They have won five of their last six games, including a 6-2 victory over Seattle just 24 hours ago. However, going into Colorado and trying to secure a win seems like a daunting task.
Colorado generates shots and scores at an elite level at home, while the Flames struggle to prevent shots and have inconsistent goaltending. With Devin Cooley injured, the Flames face a tough decision: either start Dustin on a back-to-back or turn to Arsenii Sergeev. Neither option is ideal.
Colorado can cover the total points on its own, but the Flames boast an above-average penalty kill and can shoot the puck effectively. Additionally, Colorado's goaltending has not been particularly strong. We can expect plenty of scoring chances for both teams, which should lead to a high-scoring game.
- Flames/Avalanche OVER 6.5 Goals (-110 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
🏒Today's NHL DFS Cheat Sheet & Stacks
🏅Goalie of the Day: Jacob Fowler, MTL
Jacob Fowler is determined to avoid returning to the AHL. The rookie has a record of 6 wins and 1 loss this season and boasts the best goals saved above expected (xGSA). He’s a strong presence on the defensive end. While the Penguins have talented forwards who can score, they lack enough scoring power to win consistently. Fowler has the potential to deliver significant value with a solid performance and a victory.
🏅Honourable Mention: Anthony Stolarz, TOR
Sergei Bobrovsky has had a rough season, but Anthony Stolarz has been quietly impressive, posting a 4-1-0 record with a 2.79 GAA and a .906 SV%. While these numbers aren't elite, they are above average. Vancouver is currently struggling to generate even 20 shots on goal per game, which limits Stolarz’ potential for outstanding performances. However, all we really need from him is to secure a win.
🏅Skater of the Day: Nathan MacKinnon, COL
Nathan MacKinnon has recorded 22 points this season, with 16 of those coming at home. His upcoming matchup looks very favorable, and there is every reason to expect that he will score multiple points. Look for the Avalanche center to have a very impressive night.
🏅Honourable Mention: Cole Caufield, MTL
Imagine not playing Cole Caufield on a Saturday night. The Canadiens' winger is known for scoring on this day and has a strong chance of finding the back of the net tonight. As mentioned earlier, Montreal generates a lot of shots at home, and Caufield contributes significantly. It's surprising that we can roster him on DraftKings for only $6,700.
🏅Value Play of the Day: Easton Cowan, TOR
I’m not sure what more Easton Cowan has to do to gain some respect. The player has accumulated 14 points this season, eight of which were scored on the road, and he is currently on a five-game point streak. While he’s not a high-volume shooter— which might explain his low price tag—his matchup looks promising on paper. As a result, he should be a key player in any DFS lineup tonight.
🏅Top Stack of the Day: TOR PP1
It's essential to exploit Vancouver's poor penalty kill, which stands at just 65.4%. In contrast, the Maple Leafs have a powerful power play that operates at an impressive 31.1%. Toronto will get chances on the man advantage, and when they do, they're likely to score. Choose three players that fit your budget and add them to your lineup.
