We cover the basics in our Weekly Waiver Wire Article. But Fantasy Alarm members are a different breed. Real sick individuals, like myself. We play in incredibly deep leagues and crazy formats, like the Scott Fish Bowl. We can’t help it. So we need to go DEEPER than just the basics. And that’s where the waiver wire streamers and stashes article comes in.
Here we get to the next layer of the waiver wire. We hit those “break glass in case of emergency” streamers for a desperate lineup decision. And we cover those deep sleeper stashes, to hold with only a hope and a prayer. As deep as you want to go, we will go.
Best Fantasy Football Streamers and Stashes For Week 9
What is a Streamer?
A streamer is a player that you can actually start in your lineup currently. They might not be the flashiest players, but they won’t get you a zero. In deeper leagues with a lot of starting spots, you may need to call on them from time to time - especially when bye weeks and injuries come around.
What is a Stash?
The stashes are players that have appealing upside for one reason or another but aren’t reliable guys you can start now. Maybe they are injured, and you can put them in an IR spot. Maybe they are handcuffs that could have big upside if the starter gets hurt. Maybe they are rookies that need time to develop and carve out a role. Whatever it is, we want to keep an eye on them. And stash them on deep benches.
NFL Week 9 Quarterback Streamers
Malik Willis - Miami Dolphins, Yahoo: 18% | ESPN: 6% | Sleeper: 15%
In four-point passing leagues, we are looking at Malik Willis. As we mentioned in the main article, he’s actually not throwing the ball that bad as of late either, as some of his weapons have stepped up. But it’s the mobile upside we are most interested in.
Geno Smith - New York Jets, Yahoo: 13% | ESPN: 13% | Sleeper: 18%
In six-point passing leagues, we are looking at Geno Smith. The Chiefs' defense is good, but they are currently middle of the pack in terms of passing yards allowed, as opposed to some of these teams like the Seahawks and Vikings. And the next three games against the Bills, Chargers, and Dolphins are matchups you might use Geno for as well.
- Honorable Mention or Deep League Options: Sam Darnold, Aaron Rodgers
NFL Week 9 Quarterback Stashes
Deshaun Watson - Cleveland Browns, Yahoo: 13% | ESPN: 13% | Sleeper: 18%
We mentioned this in the main article, but Deshaun Watson has flashed all the components of a possible fantasy stud QB. He has the second most rush attempts of any QB. He’s got a couple of multi-TD passing games. He just threw for 300 yards in back-to-back games. He also scored a rushing TD the week before last. If he could ever start putting that all together, Watson could have big upside down the stretch. And his schedule is pretty solid.
J.J. McCarthy - New York Giants, Yahoo: 5% | ESPN: 3% | Sleeper: 11%
Sometimes it is difficult to believe what you are seeing. Heck, the Minnesota Vikings didn’t even believe in Sam Darnold after he won 14 games for them - then he left and won a Super Bowl for Seattle. So, because of the negative stigma surrounding McCarthy, it’s hard to believe that he’s gone out and thrown for over 240 yards in back-to-back starts. Now he comes out of the bye week ready to face the Eagles and Commanders with some pretty darn good weapons. Maybe the change of scenery has worked for McCarthy?
Superflex Special: Joe Fagnano, Baltimore Ravens
Believe it or not, I was already rostering Joe Fagnano in a deep superflex dynasty league. The Ravens really like this guy, which is why they made the kind of unprecedented move to sign and keep him this offseason despite having Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley. Lamar is now done for the season, and Huntley could miss “extended time,” so we might get to see why the Ravens have been so bullish on this guy.
- Honorable Mention: Gardner Minshew, Fernando Mendoza, Tyson Bagent (possible trade to play with Declan Doyle)
NFL Week 9 Running Back Streamers
Tyler Allgeier - Arizona Cardinals, Yahoo: 25% | ESPN: 17% | Sleeper: 26%
Both Jeremiyah Love and Zonovan Knight exited the game this week, which saw Tyler Allgeier have the entire backfield to himself. As long as those guys are out, Allgeier is on the streaming radar. If even one of them is out, he’s in consideration.
Mike Washington Jr. - Las Vegas Raiders, Yahoo: 4% | ESPN: 2% | Sleeper: 10%
This one is still pretty dicey because we only have one week of the drastic change in split. But Mike Washington just got 25 carries to only 2 for Ashton Jeanty. Will this hold, or will it go back to the previous split that was dominated by Jeanty? Based on the comments from Kubiak, I imagine both backs will be involved going forward, but it’s worth grabbing and possibly using Washington with hopes that he continues to handle the early and short-yardage work.
- Honorable Mentions: Rico Dowdle, Justice Hill
NFL Week 9 Running Back Stashes
MarShawn Lloyd - Green Bay Packers, Yahoo: 28% | ESPN: 22% | Sleeper: 31%
MarShawn Lloyd is a stash again with the new allegations levied against Josh Jacobs. Lloyd wasn’t particularly great before, and the line is struggling, but a starting running back is a starting running back.
Seth McGowan - Indianapolis Colts, Yahoo: 7% | ESPN: 8% | Sleeper: 14%
No change to this situation from the past couple of weeks. Jonathan Taylor could get traded. That’s going to vaporize the value of the running back where he lands, but it could create new value for McGowan as the Colts starter.
Tyler Goodson - Dallas Cowboys, Yahoo: 0% | ESPN: 0% | Sleeper: 0%
Javonte Williams has been placed in an incredible situation for fantasy. He hasn’t even played particularly well yet is falling backwards in fantasy points because of the offense. If anything were to happen to Williams, Goodson would inherit that fortunate situation.
- Honorable Mentions: Kaelon Black, Emmett Johnson, Brian Robinson, Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Tank Bigsby
NFL Week 9 Wide Receiver Streamers
Antonio Williams - Washington Commanders, Yahoo: 7% | ESPN: 5% | Sleeper: 32%
Typically, the main waiver wire article focuses on players rostered in less than 50% of leagues and, in this one, we shoot for 35% or less were possible for deep league players. But it just so happens that our favorite adds this week are all rostered in less than 35% of leagues. As we wrote in the other article, Antonio Williams quietly led the Commanders in snaps and targets with no Terry McLaurin, so he needs to be added.
Caleb Douglas - Miami Dolphins, Yahoo: 0% | ESPN: 0% | Sleeper: 3%
Caleb Douglas was listed in both articles last week, and he’s listed in both again this week. Like Antonio Williams, the rookie also led his team in snaps and targets this past week. Douglas had a solid game against the Patriots, who are a tough matchup - his next matchups against Detroit, Indy, and Buffalo should be a bit easier.
Malachi Fields - New York Giants, Yahoo: 7% | ESPN: 5% | Sleeper: 32%
We actually prefer to stash Fields than start him. But, in deeper leagues, you might not have much of a choice. With Fields, the narrative is pretty simple - he plays a lot of snaps, and JJ McCarthy has looked his way a lot more than Jameis Winston ever did. He also runs fairly high aDot routes, so if he does connect on a big one, that might be all you need.
Simi Fehoko - Arizona Cardinals, Yahoo: 7% | ESPN: 5% | Sleeper: 32%
I know some of your sickos play in some crazy deep leagues, so I want to make sure those folks have SOMETHING to consider this week. Marvin Harrison is gone. Jalen Brooks is done for the year with a wrist injury. And Kendrick Bourne just got hurt this week as well. That saw Simi Fehoko play the second-most WR snaps for Arizona after Michael Wilson.
- Honorable Mentions: Jahan Dotson, DeMario Douglas, Cooper Kupp
NFL Week 9 Wide Receiver Stashes
Malachi Fields, New York Giants, Yahoo: 7% | ESPN: 5% | Sleeper: 32%
In terms of stashes, we rank the rookies exactly as we have them in the main article and above (Antonio Williams, then Caleb Douglas, then Malachi Fields). So prioritize those other guys first. But we want to see what happens with Fields and JJ McCarthy here, as they seem to be on the same page so far.
Travis Hunter - Jacksonville Jaguars Yahoo: 9% | ESPN: 11% | Sleeper: 15%
The NFL trade deadline is coming up soon, which means we will be getting answers on these trade rumors one way or another. We’re going to hold Travis Hunter just to see if the Brian Thomas trade does end up happening, as that is what might actually unlock more work for Hunter. He’s been electric with the ball in his hands, but it’s hard to be a two-way NFL player.
Ja'Kobi Lane - Baltimore Ravens, Yahoo: 17% | ESPN: 28% | Sleeper: 35%
I’m going to continue to stash Ja'Kobi Lane, though this week was a little bit of a setback. After Lane played more snaps and got more targets than Rashod Bateman in Week 7, Bateman got more snaps and looks in Week 8. Losing Lamar Jackson doesn’t help, but Mark Andrews and Rashod Bateman are both in the trade rumor mill.
Brandon Aiyuk - Free Agent Yahoo: 9% | ESPN: 11% | Sleeper: 15%
It’s a long shot. But Brandon Aiyuk just announced that he hired new representation in the form of Drew Rosenhaus. He’s hoping the super agent can find a way to get him back into the league. With all the injuries around the league, a team might just be crazy enough to give it a shot.
IR Spot Special: Pat Bryant, Denver Broncos
Guys like Jordyn Tyson and De’Zhaun Stribling were probably never dropped in your leagues with IR spots. But Pat Bryant was dropped in a lot of leagues, as he’s only rostered in 3% of leagues. Jaylen Waddle just played less than 50% of the snaps this week as they are protecting him with this chest injury he has. Maybe Pat Bryant can return to a bigger role for a struggling Broncos offense?
- Honorable Mentions: Michael Pittman Jr (IR spot), De'Zhaun Stribling (IR spot), Tre' Harris
NFL Week 9 Tight End Streamers
Chig Okonkwo - Washington Commanders, Yahoo: 17% | ESPN: 5% | Sleeper: 15%
Chig Okonkwo still offers the best mix of individual talent, a talented QB, and the opportunity to be a top two target on his team. So he’s both the best stream and stash for us this week, and he’s available in 70% of Yahoo leagues.
Greg Dulcich - Miami Dolphins, Yahoo: 4% | ESPN: 1% | Sleeper: 5%
Greg Dulcich has started to heat up lately, and that’s been against some pretty tough matchups for tight ends. Now he gets the Lions. Jack Campbell left the game with a neck injury, and Brian Branch left with a concussion - if those two and Kerby Joseph remain out, this would actually be an incredible matchup. Even if a couple of them play, it could work out.
Mike Gesicki - Miami Dolphins, Yahoo: 4% | ESPN: 1% | Sleeper: 5%
Mike Gesicki is still behind Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase in the pecking order. And getting 6 targets out of 48 isn’t really that impressive. Even catching one touchdown pass isn’t that special when it’s out of five. But what is special is that Gesicki has caught a touchdown in five straight weeks. Some of those were his only catch in the game, but as for a dart-throw spot start, you have that going. And Gesicki has played more lately with the injuries to Erick All and Tanner Hudson, so it’s not completely random.
- Honorable Mentions: Michael Mayer, Darnell Washington
NFL Week 9 Tight End Stashes
Terrance Ferguson - Los Angeles Rams Yahoo: 17% | ESPN: 5% | Sleeper: 15%
Chig Okonkwo and Greg Dulcich are our top stashes still, so I hope people actually read the article (or at least look at the Yin & Yang rankings). But we want to include some deeper names in this section, so here we go. Davante Adams is set to miss a lot of time, and Terrance Ferguson is returning in the near future. He might actually be the second-best WR they have on the team now after Puka Nacua, and you can start him at TE. It’s as simple as that.
Eli Raridon - New England Patriots, Yahoo: 4% | ESPN: 1% | Sleeper: 5%
Hunter Henry just left the game after 8 snaps with a foot injury. And Eli Raridon then played 55 of 60 snaps. Just seeing that usage has to have you happy about Raridon for your dynasty leagues. But if Hunter Henry misses time now, Raridon could be a great stream. They’ve kind of been splitting the tight end targets, but if either one of them were to be out, the other one would be in a much better spot for fantasy.
- Honorable Mentions: Kenyon Sadiq, Matt Hibner, Elijah Higgins, Eli Raridon
