Steelers vs. Jets Predictions for NFL Week 1, Sunday 9/7

Even if it wasn’t for the Aaron Rodgers dynamic of this matchup, it’s one that we were going to get anyway, as the AFC North and AFC East are two of the divisions that are matched up with one another this season.

The future Hall-of-Fame QB also isn’t the only new face in a new place within this clash. Next to him in the backfield will no longer be Najee Harris, who is now in Los Angeles with the Chargers, and the Jets have a new QB under center as well with Justin Fields. So, while we’d love to focus on last year’s meeting between these two teams, we can’t put too much stock in it.

It was a convincing 37-13 win for the Steelers behind 102 rushing yards from Harris, but again, he won’t be on the field for this one. That said, for those who want to focus on Steelers vs. Jets player props, we’re partial to now starting RB Jaylen Warren to go over 47.5 rushing yards.

Each of the past two seasons, New York has allowed 121+ rushing yards per game while their passing defense has been the far superior unit. So, consider that for your Steelers vs. Jets picks, but as for our best bet, we’re going to keep things basic with the standard markets for this season opener.

Steelers vs. Jets Best Bet: New York +3 Points (-115 at FanDuel)

Admittedly, we’d usually be more partial to Steelers vs. Jets player props for our best bet, but earlier in the season is when you’ll see a few more picks than usual on the standard markets. That includes this matchup, and with a home underdog at that key number of three, that’s where we see value.

Look, backing the Jets has been a tough pill to swallow for longer than their fans would prefer, but considering that the Steelers haven’t exactly been a well-oiled machine either, it’s difficult to imagine them sprinting out of the gates.

Not only is Rodgers the oldest starter in the NFL getting used to a new team without their top rusher from last year, but their biggest offensive weapon - DK Metcalf - is also a newcomer to the Steel City. On paper, that connection could turn into something great, but doing so in Week 1 is asking quite a bit.

This isn’t to say that Justin Fields is going to be a world-beater either, but he has young, consistent talent around him with Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson. The two combined for 164 receiving yards against Pittsburgh last year, not to mention Hall’s rushing touchdown.

Again, consider Jaylen Warren’s rushing prop as well, but as for the best bet from our Steelers vs. Jets predictions, we’ve got New York +3 (-115 at FanDuel).

Moving onto Steelers vs. Jets injury news, we’ll start with Pittsburgh. Rather than the 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers, it’s 26-year-old Calvin Austin that is the biggest offensive concern. On defense, we’ll be monitoring linemen Keeanu Benton and Derrick Harmon.

For Steelers vs. Jets updates in New York (Jersey), it’s a former target of Rodgers - Allen Lazard - that headlines their offensive concerns. Paired with him is DE Will McDonald, and you’re covered with all injury news with the Fantasy Alarm NFL injury report!
