NFL Training Camp Updates, Live News, Injuries: NFC East Trade Requests
Terry McLaurin, Micah Parsons Trade Requests
Last night, Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin took NFL Training Camp Update headlines by storm when he requested a trade from the team. McLaurin has been holding out from offseason practices and just rejoined the team this week in search of a new contract that he and the Commanders’ front office seem far apart on. Earlier this week, Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton received a contract extension averaging $23 million a year, significantly less than what McLaurin has been looking for. It’s reported that McLaurin is looking to get over $30 million a year, specifically over the $33 million number that DK Metcalf received from the Pittsburgh Steelers. The number the Commanders are currently offering is reported to be closer to $27 million, likely affected by the contract Sutton, a fellow 29-year-old receiver, just got.
Today, another superstar player in the NFC East requested a trade as well. After contract discussions stalled and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones refused to work with Micah Parsons’ agent, the All-Pro edge rusher has officially requested a trade from the organization via X, stating he no longer wants to be in Dallas.
Micah Parsons is viewed as one of the most talented pass rushers in the league and could be in for a massive payday with both Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt receiving $40 million per year or more. Parsons is currently in the final year of his rookie deal.
Both the Cowboys and Commanders have no plans to trade their star players, but something has got to give.
Roster Hopefuls Standing Out - Thornton, Sanders
NFL Training Camp is the perfect time for players on the roster bubble to make a name for themselves, and two players in the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers camps have been doing just that.
Wide receiver Tyquan Thornton was originally a second-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2022. His 4.28 40-yard dash time made him an intriguing deep threat, but that never translated into the regular season. That being said, after being released by the Patriots, he found his way onto the Chiefs, where he has been making the most of his opportunities while other receivers have been dealing with injury. His game-breaking speed could make for a fun combination with Patrick Mahomes’ strong arm, similar to when the Chiefs had Tyreek Hill.
Meanwhile, while everyone knows the name “Sanders,” Shilo Sanders has been trying to step out of his father's and brother’s shadows and make a name for himself at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ camp after going undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft. Head coach Todd Bowles highlighted Sanders, saying that he has been making plays, has the scheme down, and has a chance to make the final 53-man roster. Sanders and the rest of the roster hopefuls have several more tests as the NFL preseason slate continues next week.
Rookies Making Plays - Carter, Warren, Harvey
Many rookies have been flashing thus far into NFL Training Camps. The stars of today, though, come from the New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts, and Denver Broncos.
Unlike another edge rusher from Penn State in the NFC East, rookie first-round pick Abdul Carter seems happy with the New York Giants and is letting his presence be known, pushing the entire defensive line to improve and make an impact on the 2025 NFL season.
The Indianapolis Colts had a dire need at the tight end position, and they filled it perfectly in the 2025 NFL Draft with first-rounder Tyler Warren.
Expectations are sky high for Broncos rookie running back RJ Harvey. Head coach Sean Payton has been known to get the most out of his running backs as receivers, most recently with Alvin Kamara in New Orleans. Payton seems to have the same idea in mind with Harvey.
Tom Brady Attends Raiders Camp
No need to panic, Jets fans, the bad man is still retired. The former quarterback and now partial owner of the Las Vegas Raiders did make his first public appearance with the team today, though. Brady was seen fully decked out in Raiders gear, mingling with players and staff.
NFL Training Camp Injury Update & Transactions: Baker Mayfield Injured
Baker Mayfield Injury Update
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield missed practice today after suffering a contusion on his throwing hand during practice Thursday. He is now considered day-to-day, and luckily, there is no long-term concern in regards to his injury.
Kenny Pickett Injury Update
After suffering a hamstring injury earlier this week, Kenny Pickett has since rejoined Browns practice in a limited capacity. Pickett now returns to the battle for the QB1 spot alongside Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders.
Jayden Reed Injury Update
After leaving practice early yesterday with a foot injury, it is now reported that Jayden Reed avoided a major injury, according to head coach Matt LeFluer. He also believes that Reed’s cleats may be to blame for the receiver’s discomfort.
Kansas City Chiefs Injury Update
Yesterday, I highlighted one Super Bowl team’s long list of injuries, and now it is the other team’s turn! Wide receivers Xavier Worthy (potential concussion), Hollywood Brown (ankle), and Skyy Moore (hamstring) are all still on the injury report, all missing practice today. Good news for Worthy, though, his head injury is not as bad as initially reported, and he should be able to rejoin the team very soon. Tight end Jake Briningstool (hamstring), linebacker Drew Tranquill (back), corner Kristian Fulton (knee), and safety Deon Bush (hamstring) all missed practice as well while dealing with their injuries.
Other Notable Injury Updates
- Quinnen Williams & John Simpson: Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and guard John Simpson are both expected to miss up to two weeks while Williams deals with a calf injury and Simpson deals with a back injury, according to head coach Aaron Glenn. Safety Malachi Moore also has an oblique strain.
- T'Vondre Sweat: Defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat is day-to-day with an abdominal issue, according to head coach Brian Callahan.
- Nic Scourton & DJ Johnson: Linebackers Nic Scourton and DJ Johnson each suffered minor injuries during practice. Scourton is dealing with a hamstring injury, while Johnson had a hip injury flare-up, according to head coach Dave Canales.
