Be sure to follow along throughout the remainder of the offseason, and let’s dive into the NFL Training Camp Updates!
NFL Training Camp Updates, Live News, Injuries: Jets Offense Struggles
Justin Fields, Jets Offense Struggles
In search of a solution to the quarterback situation in New York, the Jets sprung for a low-risk, high-reward option in Justin Fields. He was cheaper than other starting options, he’s still young, and he is one of the greatest athletes at the quarterback position that we have ever seen. Unfortunately, though, he is still struggling as a passer.
In his last three practices while working in 11-on-11s, Fields has gone 15 of 43 passing (34%) with two interceptions. Today, he finished with just nine completions on 17 attempts, with none of his completions traveling beyond five air yards. He also took three sacks during this period.
Head coach Aaron Glenn says he is not too worried about the offensive struggles just yet and that it is too early to panic. Fields is also still recovering from a toe injury he sustained over a week ago.
The silver lining, Jets fans? Breece Hall and the ground game seem to be doing well in comparison to the passing game! He has been seeing a lot of work as a receiver as well (take notes, fantasy football folks!!!).
Kyren Williams Contract Extension
In the midst of several holdouts, hold-ins, and contract disputes, the Los Angeles Rams have decided to pay their star running back, Kyren Williams, to a three-year, $33 million extension. Williams is coming off a career year that saw him rush for just under 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns. His new contract makes him the seventh-highest-paid running back in the league.
His $11 million per year average makes things interesting for fellow running back James Cook, who was looking for a contract extension closer to $15 million. With similar numbers over the past two years, Cook might have to settle for less money than he was anticipating if he wants to see the field with the Buffalo Bills this year.
Team Depth Chart Releases - Giants, Browns QB Battle Updates
In yesterday's NFL Training Camp Updates, we took a look at the first official depth chart from the Indianapolis Colts, seeing them list Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson as co-QB1s (although Richardson will play with the starters during the first preseason game, Daniel Jones will take over with the starters during the second). Today, we saw a few more depth charts get released, bringing some clarity to a few position battles and contract situations throughout the league:
- Browns: QB1: Joe Flacco, QB2: Kenny Pickett, QB3: Dillon Gabriel, QB4: Shedeur Sanders
- Giants: QB1: Russell Wilson, QB2: Jameis Winston, QB3: Jaxson Dart
- Cowboys: Starting DE: Micah Parsons
While even Bears head coach Ben Johnson says that these depth charts should be taken with a grain of salt, as NFL training camps and the preseason are all about battling for opportunity, it is worth noting that the Cowboys do not seem fazed by Parsons' trade request. Additionally, the young quarterbacks in New York and Cleveland have to keep battling for a better spot on the depth chart (especially with all the injuries in Cleveland's QB room).
Ravens-Colts Joint Practice Gets Heated
Some of the most fun NFL Training Camp Updates often come from joint practices, and today was no different. The Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts held their first joint practices of training camp together today, which led to some chippiness between the two teams.
First, there was some pushing and shoving as several defenders struggled to bring down wide receiver Michael Pittman, but the action really escalated during punt drill, when a fight broke out between the two teams. After Ravens' second-year corner Nate Wiggins threw several punches in the brawl, he was removed from the remainder of practice. The Colts and Ravens match up in the NFL preseason on Thursday at 7:00 PM ET.
Rookie Wide Receivers Shine - Emeka Egbuka, Tory Horton
With Chris Godwin still dealing with an ankle injury from last season and in danger of missing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, the Buccaneers have leaned into first-round rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka, who has been the star of their training camp thus far.
The Seahawks may have also found a star receiver in the draft, but theirs came in the fifth round. Tory Horton has been making his presence known in training camp early and often, earning first-team reps alongside veterans Cooper Kupp and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Cornerback Riq Wolen has even been referring to the receiver as "Jerry Rice Jr.," High praise for the rookie.
NFL Training Camp Injury Update & Transactions: Jordan Addison Suspension Update
On top of all of our NFL Training Camp Updates on the field, plenty of news happened off the field as well. Check out our NFL Training Camp Injury Update & Transactions.
Jordan Addison Faces Suspension
As I mentioned in yesterday's NFL Training Camp Updates, the Minnesota Vikings were bracing for a three-game suspension for their wide receiver Jordan Addison. Today, that suspension length has been confirmed. Addison pleaded to a lesser charge last month after being arrested for a suspected DUI in 2024. Jordan Addison will be eligible to return for the Vikings' Week Four game against the Pittsburgh Steelers after missing weeks one through three versus the Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, and Cincinnati Bengals.
Anthony Barr Retires
Longtime star linebacker and three-time Pro Bowler Anthony Barr announced his retirement. Barr spent all but one of his 10-year NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings. He now turns his attention to fully focus on his foundation, Raise the Barr, and their mission of helping families in need.
Teddy Bridgewater Returns to the NFL
After spending some time away from the NFL as a high school football coach, Teddy Bridgewater is returning to the NFL as a backup for Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, signing a one-year deal today. Bridgewater made a short return last season as a backup for Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions in the NFL playoffs.
Philadelphia Eagles and Las Vegas Raiders Trade
Last night, the Philadelphia Eagles traded defensive tackle Thomas Booker to the Las Vegas Raiders for cornerback Jakorian Bennett. In what seems like a “depth for depth” trade, the Raiders' cornerback room gets even more shallow while Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio gets another young, athletic corner to develop. Yep. Another Howie Roseman masterclass.
Tyler Huntley Signs
After dealing with several injuries to their young quarterbacks (who would've thought 40-year-old Joe Flacco would be the last one standing), the Cleveland Browns have decided to bring another arm into camp with former Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler Huntley. Huntley is best known for his time as Lamar Jackson's backup in Baltimore, but more recently had a stint in Miami, backing up Tua Tagovailoa.
Quandre Diggs Signs
After testing free agency, safety Quandre Diggs has decided to return to the Tennessee Titans. Diggs signed with the Titans last offseason and unfortunately, lost half of his season due to injury. That being said, Diggs is ready to make an impact as a veteran presence on a young and up-and-coming team.
Notable Injury Updates
- Michael Wilson: Cardinals Wide receiver Michael Wilson missed practice due to a concussion, while fellow receiver Marvin Harrison made his return from injury today.
- Nate Hobbs: Packers cornerback Nate Hobbs underwent knee surgery and currently has no timetable for his return. Head coach Matt LeFluer hopes to get him back “sooner rather than later,” though.
- Arik Armstead: The veteran defensive lineman Arik Armstead is currently dealing with a back injury and is unsure if he will be available for Week One.
- Devin Neal and Juwan Johnson: Rookie running back Devin Neal is out with a hamstring injury and will miss a few weeks, while Juwan Johnson is day-to-day with a groin injury, according to Saints head coach Kellen Moore.
- Tyrod Taylor and Mason Taylor: Tyrod Taylor is being evaluated with a knee injury, while rookie tight end is out with a high ankle sprain. Defensive players Will McDonald IV and Azareye'h Thomas also left practice early with injuries
