NFL Friday Roundup: Najee Harris Update, Injuries, Trades & Fantasy Buzz, 7/11
The Scott Fish Bowl is the unofficial official kickoff of fantasy football season. And, as live #SFB15 drafts kicked off this Monday, we are in the thick of it. We’ll still keep chugging along with best ball and dynasty fantasy football season never ends, but it’s time to start gearing up for our real leagues. Our big leagues. The redraft leagues.
As part of that, we’re going to do our best to round up the NFL news each week on Friday. There will certainly be a lot more important info come training camp. But the NFL always finds a way of trickling things out there and staying relevant. So let’s dive into the bigger stories first, then hit on the fantasy football rumor mill at the very bottom.
Najee Harris Injures Eye In Firework Mishap
- Most times, when an NFL internet rumor goes unconfirmed for a few days, it turns out to be untrue. This was the rare occasion where the rumor did actually get confirmed nearly a week later. Apparently, Najee Harris suffered an eye injury in a fireworks accident on the Fourth of July. It doesn’t seem to be too bad, and he’s expected to be ready for training camp, but it was bad enough that he confirmed that he was hurt. Obviously, it was an accident but when your team drafts a player at your position in the first round, like the Chargers did with Omarion Hampton, you need to make sure you are ready to compete when the time comes.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tackle Tristan Wirfs Set To Miss Start of Season
- Star offensive lineman Tristan Wirfs will reportedly miss the start of the 2025 NFL season. He had an arthroscopic procedure in his knee and Tuesday, and minor damage was found requiring surgery. If he ends up on the Physically Unable to Perform list, as some speculate, he would be required to miss a minimum of four games.
Cowboys Kavontae Turpin Arrested On Gun And Drug Charges
- The wide receiver and return man was arrested on Saturday, July 5th, per the Allen, Texas Police Department. He was pulled over driving 97 MPH in a 70-mile-per-hour zone. When he was pulled over, police found a 9 mm pistol improperly stored in the back seat, and a search found marijuana in the center console. He was booked on two misdemeanors, possession of marijuana and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
Eli Manning Decides Not To Invest In New York Giants
- Discussions were underway for former Giants quarterback and Hall of Fame hopeful Eli Manning to potentially buy a portion of the team. It’s been reported, however, that Eli Manning has opted not to invest in the New York Giants, citing simply that it was “too expensive”. The Giants will continue to look for someone to buy the 10% of the team that is available. Some value the team at around $10 billion, which would mean even 1% of the team would cost $10 million, and the share they are selling $100 million.
NFL, NFLPA Agreed To Keep Collusion Findings Secret
- It almost sounds like a headline you would get from The Onion, but the headline is real. The NFL and NFLPA had an arbitration hearing about whether owners conspired to suppress quarterback contracts after Deshaun Watson was signed. It’s been reported that both sides agreed to keep the findings secret, regardless of the outcome, sharing the info with league officials and top lawyers/personnel from the union. That became a bit stickier of a situation when the findings from the case were leaked. It makes you wonder what other confidential meetings are happening that even the players don’t know about.
Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans Each Contribute $500,000 to Flood Victims
- Flash floods have devastated areas of Texas, with the death toll rising to 121, with many still reported missing. In response, the two NFL football teams in Texas combined to donate a million dollars to relief efforts.
Fantasy Football News, Rumors, Trades, and Injuries
This section is dedicated to fantasy-relevant rumblings from around the various off-season practices and meetings. We’ll look at who is practicing or not, as well as some trade talk.
- Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, appearing on the podcast Bussin With The Boys and said that teams will “go after” Travis Hunter when he plays defense and “try to wear him out” by running deep balls at him. It’s been said he has incredible endurance, but that will be put to the test at the next level if he plays both ways.
- Denver Post’s Parker Gabriel believes Marvin Mims, not rookie Pat Bryant, is the most likely WR2 for the Broncos. They will compete with Troy Franklin for snaps and then compete with Courtland Sutton, Evan Engram, and RJ Harvey for targets.
- Dyami Brown is in line for a starting role with the Jacksonville Jaguars. This isn’t necessarily crazy news since Liam Coen loves three WR sets. If Travis Hunter ends up a part-time player to start the year, however, Brown could be a full-time guy opposite Brian Thomas
