It was an incredible season for the Seattle Seahawks. And it all started in the trenches of the offseason with John Schneider. He brought in Klint Kubiak who brought along guys like Rick Dennison. He filled out the roster with the guys they needed. And they won the Super Bowl. Schneider’s incredible work in the offseason also earned him NFL Executive of the Year.

Now they need to figure out how they are going to run it back. Many times teams that win the Super Bowl hope to simply maintain what they have but the Seahawks could be in a position to make some upgrades. They quietly have a lot of cap space - not jus for a Super Bowl team but any team sitting with the sixth most. Though they do need to pay some key guys, like Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Today we are going to look at the contracts, the depth chart, and the cap space to figure out what might be possible. We’ll weigh in with some fantasy football thoughts as well for folks that play. Seattle Seahawks Free Agency 2026

CURRENT PROJECTED TOP 51 2026 SALARIES: $255M

CURRENT ESTIMATED 2026 TEAM CAP SPACE: $61M

Free Agent Types

Unrestricted free agent: Any player with four or more accrued seasons whose contract has expired. They are free to negotiate with any team.

Restricted free agent: A player with three accrued seasons and an expired contract. The CBA allowed for NFL teams to tender these players to one year qualifying offers to retain them. Another team can sign them but would need to provide the tendering team with compensation. In layman’s terms, if a new team signs a player, the current team can match it or they receive the corresponding pick from the new team. These are the projected RFA tender levels per OverTheCap.com:

  • 1st Round - $7,893,000
  • 2nd Round - $5,658,000
  • Right of First Refusal - $3,453,000

Exclusive rights free agent: Any player with fewer than three accrued seasons and an expired contract. If his original team offers him a one-year contract at the league minimum, the player cannot negotiate with other teams. If the team wants the player back, these contracts are a no-brainer as the player either needs to play on the contract or sit out.

Seahawks Quarterback Depth Chart

Sam Darnold: The Seahawks made a simple but bold bet here. They bet that the Vikings winning 14 games was more about Sam Darnold himself than we were led to believe. And we all know what happened next. Sam Darnold not only won 14 games again but he went on to win the Super Bowl.

Darnold played well in both situations but, for fantasy football leagues, we did get one downgrade. Darnold went from running 67 times in 2024 to 35 in 2025. A big part of that is the way the offense is designed with Darnold getting the ball out of his hands in 2.74 seconds on average in 2025 vs. 3.08 in 2024 per Pro Football Focus. The offense asks you to operate more in structure. For me a guy like Darnold is someone I’m looking to sell in dynasty leagues, especially if someone wants him in single QB. You are basically playing with house money given how low his value was at points but I’m not sure he has the profile to really offer high-end upside moving forward.

Drew LockDrew Lock has had his ups and downs in the NFL - mostly downs, if we are being honest. But right he’s a Super Bowl champion and he’s on the upswing. He could become a trade candidate if they are comfortable with Jalen Milroe but, for now, they are happy to have a solid backup under contract.

Jalen MilroeWith the uncertainty surrounding Sam Darnold, the Seahawks were smart to take a stab on a development project. Unlike the Falcons who signed Kirk Cousins then used a 10th overall pick on Michael Penix, the Seahawks only used a third round pick here. With Darnold proving his worth, they can develop Milroe and dangle him as trade bait moving forward.

SEAHAWKS QB FREE AGENCY TAKE: The Seahawks have their starter, they have a veteran backup, and they have a development project. Even if they make a trade, that would tell you they are comfortable with Lock or Milroe as backup. Pretty good situation in SEA.

Seahawks Runningback Depth Chart

Kenneth WalkerKenneth Walker is a free agent and the only hesitation here is the very late-season injury to Zach Charbonnet. But Walker, and the entire world, are aware of what happened this season. A lot of the glory (and that I mean touchdowns) was given to Charbonnet at the goal line after Walker carried the water up and down the field. After Charbs got hurt, Kenneth Walker showed exactly who he can be, even winning Super Bowl MVP. If I were him, I’d go out and get paid.

The best scenario would see him getting paid and landing in a good spot for fantasy football. The Chiefs top everyone’s wish list every year but teams like the Commanders, Texans, Jaguars, Broncos, or Vikings also offer pretty big opportunities. As long as it’s not another split, we are happy. The most recent reports are that the Giants are heavily interested in Kenneth Walker, which is a potential split that would not make us happy.

Zach CharbonnetWe are getting some mixed signals regarding the injury for Zach Charbonnet. Mike Macdonald made comments that seem to be in conflict. He told reporters that they are now more optimistic about his timetable to return than they once were. But he also said the ACL repair surgery only just recently happened, most likely because there was too much swelling that they needed to let settle down.

My read on this is that they were initially nervous the injury may have been more than just an ACL - or even one that could have been more difficult to repair. Since the surgery was just recently done and now Macdonald is saying good things, my guess is that they went into the surgery and found that the damage was not anything out of the ordinary so there was a routine procedure. That would explain why late surgery can bring good news.

At the end of the day what I’m getting is that this is good news for the long-term outcome of Charbonnet but that they are going to need help in the short term as he recovers. The most important thing for the dynasty value of Charbs is still very simple - Kenneth Walker leaves.

George HolaniHolani has been floating around the team for a couple of years now, playing special teams while ready to be the “next man up”. Part of that includes kick returns. And he’s looked serviceable in that role. He’s an exclusive rights free agent, meaning they can bring him back for the veteran minimum without him being able to negotiate elsewhere so that seems like a lock to me. Not sure they trust him enough to be the Day One starter but he’s worth starting in deeper leagues just to see if he can be the RB2.

Kenny McIntoshWe don’t know for sure if McIntosh would have made the team as he tore his ACL in July and went to season ending IR. He is under contract on a rookie deal for 2026 and, given their lack of depth, I expect him back if he’s recovered. He also contributes on special teams on top of having some third down back abilities. But the sad reality of injuries at this part of the roster is that they can lead to teams moving on.

Robbie OuztsOuzts served as their fullback when healthy after being drafted out of Alabama - he also played some special teams. Assuming they continue with the scheme Klint Kubiak installed, he should be back.

Brady RussellThe hybrid tight end and special teams captain stepped in and played fullback valiantly whenever Ouzts was injured. He’s a free agent but could definitely be back in 2026.

SEAHAWKS RB FREE AGENCY TAKE: If Kenneth Walker is back, then there is no need to speculate. But that’s no fun is it? I personally don’t expect them to go into 2026 with just George Holani, Kenny McIntosh, and an injured Zach Charbonnet. Charbonnet handled the bruiser work well so complementing him with someone with some pass-catching chops makes sense. If they aren’t willing to spend up for Kenneth Walker, here are some names that would work.

POSSIBLE FREE AGENT OPTIONS: Rico Dowdle, Kenneth Gainwell, Rachaad White, Kareem Hunt, Jerome Ford

Seahawks Wide Receiver Depth Chart

Jaxon Smith-NjigbaWe wrote about JSN back in June of 2024. We were looking at wide receivers who started as part-time slot guys then transitioned to full-time roles, like CeeDee Lamb and Chris Godwin. Lamb got there in year two, Godwin took until year three to get the gig but then finished as the WR2 in fantasy football. Well, JSN got there in year two and, in year three, he finished as the WR2 in fantasy football.

And we don’t see why that would change. That makes Jaxon Smith-Njigba one of the top assets in all of fantasy football - especially in dynasty leagues. He’ll likely be made one of the highest paid wide receivers in the NFL soon.

Cooper KuppSome wondered if Cooper Kupp might retire but reports of him working out with Puka Nacua already are a good indication that he plans to be back. And his contract is heavily guaranteed so there’s not much benefit in releasing him - only via trade. He may not have put up gaudy numbers but his intangles as a leader plus his willingness to run block should keep him involved in 2026.

Rashid ShaheedRashid Shaheed worked with Klint Kubiak in New Orleans then they brought him over via trade. With how much they relied on JSN, especially for deep passes, it was smart of them to bring in some insurance there. Plus Shaheed made some crucial plays on special teams. He’s expected to get decent money in free agency so, if the Seahawks bring him back, that signals that he would probably have a full-time role with Kupp relegated to more part time action.

If Shaheed leaves, there’s no shortage of teams that could use a speedy field-stretcher. The best spots for his fantasy upside would be familiar schemes where he could be an every down player. Bonus points if they use a lot of two WR sets which can highly consolidate snaps. The 49ers come to mind as well as following Klint Kubiak to the Raiders.

Jake Bobo: Jake Bobo was the big bodied split end backup to DK Metcalf. This iteration of the offense doesn’t really use that role so Bobo played more special teams with only limited work on offense. He’s a restricted free agent so they could tender him at the right of first refusal level but, if he is back, it could make sense to do a cheaper deal two year deal. If you are rooting for Bobo in fantasy, leaving in free agency probably is the best path for him.

Tory HortonHorton is the most interesting stash to me of the depth pieces on this team. He’s shown flashes of his explosiveness at the NFL level that had him dominating at times in college. Injuries and the Rashid Shaheed trade derailed him a bit but, if they believe in him and let Shaheed walk, he’ll have a chance to be more involved moving forward. The dream, of course, would be two WR sets between JSN and Horton like we saw with Chris Olave and Rasheed Shaheed in New Orleans.

Cody WhiteWhite primarily contributed on special teams when active, playing on four different units. He finished the season on IR with a groin injury. I doubt they tender him as an RFA but he could be back on a cheap deal for special teams.

Dareke YoungDareke Young was drafted in the seventh round and mostly contributed on special teams. He actually played over 200 special teams snaps despite only appearing in 12 games so I imagine they hang onto him.

SEAHAWKS WR FREE AGENCY TAKE: The Seahawks are in an interesting spot here. JSN is locked in and awesome. But do they want to just continue to lean so heavily on him? Cooper Kupp will be back but might be better off in a part time slot role at this stage. Another field stretcher on the outside would help. Rashid Shaheed or Tory Horton are the obvious answers but here are the free agent names that could be fits.

POSSIBLE FREE AGENT OPTIONS: Rashid Shaheed, Alec Pierce, Tyquan Thornton, Marquise Brown, Dyami Brown, Brandin Cooks, Tutu Atwell, Jahan Dotson

Seahawks Tight End Depth Chart

AJ BarnerKlint Kubiak loves his two tight end sets. One of his favorite formations is to have an inline tight end with another tight end right off his shoulder in a wing back type spot. AJ Barner, with his blocking prowess, earned the primary tight end role where he was the inline guy (he lined up inline for ~85% of his snaps.

This might seem controversial to some folks but I’d be looking to sell Barner in dynasy immediately after this season. Not only were the inline snaps not ideal but he was asked to block on 16.8% of his pass plays which is a fantasy killer. He only had a 68.1% route participation, largely because of that. If Elijah Arroyo remained healthy, Barner likely would not have been able to make an impact the way he did. Barner is a good NFL player but guys like him generally tend to go more the path of Dawson Knox rather than becoming top 5-6 fantasy options.

Elijah ArroyoEven if his rookie year wasn’t ideal, Arroyo is the more interesting one to stash in dynasty. He’s the better athlete and much more likely to line up in the slot or at split end. Unlike Barner, he was only asked to pass block on 4% of his routes while having a 9 yard aDot vs. 5.3. Arroyo might not outproduce Barner over the short term with the role being split but, to me, he has the higher long-term upside with his profile. We don’t really care much about floor - only what the ceiling might be.

Eric SaubertEric Saubert is the backup inline tight end behind Barner and he’s on a fairly affordable deal. So I don’t see much reason to release him - especially since he plays a lot of special teams.

Nick KallerupLike many undrafted free agents, Kallerup is operating on the fringe of the roster hoping to hold on via special teams. But his roster spot is not safe.

  • Reserves/Futures: N/A

SEAHAWKS TE FREE AGENCY TAKE: The Seahawks have what they need at tight end with Barner as the inline guy who skews blocking, Arroyo as the guy who skews pass downs, and some depth behind them. Brady Russell can also help in a pinch if he’s back. So I don’t expect major action here.
