Just like that we are at the halfway point of the work week, and Wednesday generally means a full day and night of MLB action. Today is no different and we have a nine game MLB DFS main slate to dig into for this evening. There are some true aces taking the mound tonight with four starters at the $10k mark or above on DraftKings but that does not mean we can’t find some value options either. Of course, there is going to be some risk to be dealt with, but then again what else is new. The goal here is to mitigate and balance as much risk as we can with upside, so let’s dig into some MLB DFS value picks for tonight. As usual, it is important to stay up to date on the latest MLB weather, MLB news, and MLB lineups.

DFS Value Pitchers

Jordan Montgomery (STL); DraftKings - $6,900; FanDuel - $8,700, Yahoo - $36

Montgomery is coming off arguably his best start of the season against Milwaukee as he picked up his fifth victory of the season. By now, it is old hat not to necessarily chase victories as the left-hander is not exactly racking up the wins despite making 23 starts this season and posting a solid 3.37 ERA (3.77 FIP) along with a 1.07 WHIP. It was the second straight start in which Montgomery did not allow a run as he scattered four hits and two walks while striking out eight. Montgomery does a good job of limiting walks, 1.86 per nine innings, while striking out close to eight batters per nine innings and I like the matchup tonight as he faces the Rockies away from the confines of Coors Field. With a 6.2%-barrel rate, opposing hitters have not been squaring Montgomery up all that well either.

Cal Quantrill (CLE); DraftKings - $7,000; FanDuel - $8,300; Yahoo - $38

Talk about entering tonight on a high note. Just like Montgomery, Quantrill has not allowed a run in either of his last two starts while picking up victories in both. In his last 13 innings, the right-hander scattered just four hits and a walk while striking out 11 batters. With just 5.95 strikeouts per nine innings, we are not getting much upside here, but Quantrill has been a dependable option all season and for the most part he has limited the damaged and pitched out of trouble with a 3.67 ERA (4.43 xERA). With a 7.3%-barrel rate and 35% hard hit rate against Quantrill, it also helps that opposing hitters are not truly squaring him up.

DFS Value Hitters

Rodolfo Castro, SS (PIT); DraftKings - $2,600; FanDuel - $2,200; Yahoo - $121

Let’s hope that Castro remembers to take his cell phone out of his pocket, but the infielder has been in a groove lately with two hits in four of his last six games. Castro figures to take advantage of a favorable matchup for Pittsburgh tonight against Rich Hill and his 4.75 ERA so far this season. The young infielder has performed well in small bursts previously and he is an interesting option to keep the success going and also as a cheap piece of a Pirates stack for tonight.

Harold Ramírez, OF (TB); DraftKings - $3,500; FanDuel - $2,300; Yahoo - $15

Ramirez returned on Tuesday after missing just about a month with a thumb injury and went right back to batting third for Tampa Bay. The outfielder went 1 for 4 in his return as he looks to pick up where he left off as Ramirez is batting .328 on the season with four home runs and 35 RBI. In facing Domingo Germán tonight, it is a favorable matchup for Ramirez who is one of the true Rays players who does not need to be part of a platoon as he is hitting .314 against right-handed pitching with three home runs and 26 RBI.

Marcus Semien, 2B (TEX); DraftKings - $4,300; FanDuel - $2,400; Yahoo - $23

I know this has not been an ideal season for Semien, but what am I missing with this FD price? Yes, Semien did go hitless on Tuesday to bring his batting average down to .236 on the season, but he also went deep on Monday for the 18th time this season as part of a two-hit effort. Semien has driven in 57 runs as well this season so we are getting a fair amount of production out of him even if it might not be at the level we thought it would be at entering 2022. After hitting .287 in June and .268 in July it did look like Semien was on the right track, but prior to Tuesday’s game he was hitting just .211 in August. The difference though is that he is still producing in the power and department and a Texas stack against Adam Oller is certainly on the table for tonight.

Sean Murphy, C (OAK); DraftKings - $4,500; FanDuel - $2,700; Yahoo - $16

Let’s target the other side of what figures to be an ugly pitching matchup and Pinder gets to face Cole Ragans and his 4.82 ERA. Murphy went deep for the 14th time this season on Tuesday to bring his batting average up to .246 on the season with 49 RBI and 48 runs scored. Heading into action last night, Murphy was surging with a .293 batting average in August after a .299 mark in July as a middle of the order threat for Oakland.
