Nathan Eovaldi MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 6.5 Strikeouts

The Los Angeles Angels continue to have one of the most strikeout-prone offenses in the league. It’s been a profitable matchup to target for opposing pitchers all season, and we’ll gladly do it again today. Let’s back Nathan Eovaldi to rack up Ks for the Texas Rangers in this AL West showdown. 

The Angels have a league-worst 26.4% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this year. Plus, their .215 team batting average vs. righties is dead last in the majors as well. Over the past two weeks in the split, the LAA lineup has a 27.6% K rate (29th in MLB) with a .176 batting average (29th) and 5.0% walk rate (30th). 

It’s a great spot for Eovaldi, who’s averaging 6.1 strikeouts per start this year. He has seven or more punchouts in six of his nine outings as well. The veteran’s current 9.05 K/9 rate is his best since the 2021 season. Plus, his 37.2% chase rate (94th MLB percentile) and 31.7% whiff rate (88th) give him more upside in the strikeout department. 

Corbin Carroll MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

Colorado Rockies starter Michael Lorenzen has really struggled this season. He owns a rough 7.03 ERA and 1.91 WHIP through 11 appearances this season. He’s worth fading in every facet right now as one of the more untrustable pitchers in the majors. That makes Corbin Carroll an appealing player to back tonight. 

Carroll has been red-hot at the plate lately. The Arizona Diamondbacks’ outfielder is batting .348 with a 1.191 OPS over his last 13 games. He’s also cleared 1.5 combined hits, runs, and RBI in nine of the past 10 games entering this matchup. 

Meanwhile, Lorenzen has gotten knocked around by left-handed hitters this year. The veteran is surrending a .408 batting average and 1.208 OPS to lefties thus far. Plus, he just coughed up seven runs on nine hits to Arizona in his previous start. Carroll did major damage in that game, launching two homers. 

With the way Carroll is swinging it right now, another big performance is well within reach. He could go yard again, but he safer play is backing him to have higher than 1.5 hits+runs+RBI on Saturday night at home.
