Philadelphia Phillies vs Houston Astros

Total: 8.0

Moneyline: Astros -135

We move to Game 3 of the MLB World Series! The Phillies will send Noah Syndergaard to the mound while the Astros will counter with Lance McCullers. This has the look of a pitcher’s duel and, as you can see above, the Astros are pretty big favorites.

Captain/MVP

Lance McCullers, Houston Astros

McCullers only pitched in eight regular season games, but he was lights out in them, pitching to a 2.30 ERA with 63 strikeouts across 58.2 innings of work. He made one start against the Phillies and he was great, firing six innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts. McCullers offers the more upside of the two pitchers taking the mound tonight.

Noah Syndergaard, Philadelphia Phillies

Thor was great at home this year with a 3.40 ERA and 1.17 WHIP, compared to 4.55 and 1.345 on the road. Overall for the year, he had a rock-solid 3.86 ERA, but his very low strikeout rate is a concern for DFS (99 Ks in 140 innings). He is not expected to pitch deep into this game though, so I probably wouldn’t roster him personally (but pitchers do tend to have the most point upside in DFS).

Kyle Tucker, Houston Astros

Tucker crushed righties this year to the tune of a .275/.359/.491 slash (with 22 steals), compared to .228/.279/.456 against lefties (3 steals). The steals are ever more noteworthy today because Thor has a slow delivery to the plate. Tucker had a .848 OPS and 9.5 DraftKings PPG on the road this year, compared to .768 and 7.8 marks at home this year. On top of all that, lefties did far more damage against Thor than righties did, slashing .272/.324/.424 against him, compared to the .256/.295/.395 line that righties produced.

Utility

Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros

Alvarez was a beast once again this year and he is one of the best pure hitters in the game. He offers a ton of upside on a daily basis as he has pop, consistent hitting, and high R+RBI totals (203 across 143 games – reaching the century mark in both categories).

David Hensley, Houston Astros

Hensley picks up a surprise World Series start today, his first start of the playoffs. I like him today though, mainly because of his super cheap price, but also because he looked pretty good in the regular season, going 10-30 (.333) with a home run.

Rhys Hoskins, Philadelphia Phillies

Hoskins was much better at home this year, slashing .266/.355/.562 in Philly, compared to .219/.298/.375 on the road. Righties were FAR better against McCullers this season, slashing .258/.303/.409 against him, compared to the putrid .165/.302/.253 line that lefties “produced.” McCullers has also been worse on the road this year and that’s been a theme his whole career as he has a 4.43 ERA on the road in his career, compared to 2.67 at home.

J.T. Realmuto, Philadelphia Phillies

I like Realmuto for a lot of the same reasons that I like Hoskins (as far as this matchup with McCullers goes), but he has some other benefits as well; he is slashing .289/.357/.553 over his last 10 games with three dingers. He was also way better at home this year too, slashing .315/.375/.549, compared to .236/.313/.407 on the road.

Brandon Marsh, Philadelphia Phillies

Marsh, being an Angel for the majority of the season, has seen McCullers more than anyone besides Segura and he is a solid 3-9 (.333) against him to this point. The only other reason besides the BvP data to consider Marsh today is for his extremely cheap price tag.
