DFS Lineup Construction Thoughts
Small slates can be tough to build lineups with. You have a limited number of options to choose from and a lot of players are going to see high exposure percentages, so you have to try and differentiate from the field, while at the same time not having many ways to do that. As for this particular slate, Joe Ryan and Blake Snell are the headliners on the mound and the Arizona Diamondbacks are the only team with an implied run total north of 5.00. Let’s dive into all of it!
Recommended DFS Starting Pitchers
Top Options for Strikeouts
Aaron Nola, Philadelphia Phillies
Best Odds for a Win
Logan Allen (Cleveland Guardians -178)
Joe Ryan (Minnesota Twins -151)
Tommy Henry (Arizona Diamondbacks -147)
Favorite Starters to Use for DFS Lineups
Ryan has been struggling a bit over his last handful of starts, but he has still been very good overall this season with a 3.30 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, seven wins, and 91 Ks across 84.2 innings pitched. The Red sox aren’t the easiest of matchups, but also not a terrifying one by any means. He is averaging 22.7 dk points per game at home this season, compared to 19.0 on the road.
Snell has been incredible lately, scoring 23.9, 30.5, 36, and 37.9 dk points over his last four games. He will likely be very highly rostered today for that reason. He has 12 Ks in back-to-back outings and at least six in five straight with 93 total across 75 innings this year. The Giants hit righties better than lefties, which also bodes well for Snell and he has a 3.11 ERA on the road this year (compared to 3.86 at home). He has the highest ceiling on this slate.
Brandon Walter, Boston Red Sox
Let’s get a little wild with this one. Walter will make his MLB debut today and he is only 4K on DraftKings. He has been abysmal this season at AAA and he is an extremely risky play today, but there are some things to like. The main thing is the price and how he allows you to get big bats in your lineup. Next is his strikeout rate with 64 Ks across 61.2 innings this season and 310 Ks across 242 career minor league innings. Lastly, the Twins offense is pretty bad and they are cold right now, averaging just 3.38 runs per game over their last 8 games.
Recommended DFS Hitters
Highest Expected Run Totals
5.20 – Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Jake Irvin
4.95 – Minnesota Twins vs. Justin Garza
4.90 – Atlanta Braves vs. Aaron Nola
Favorite Hitters to Use for DFS Lineups
Christian Walker, 1B, Arizona Diamondbacks
Walker is cooking right now, hitting .385 with a 1.198 OPS over his last 10 games, swatting three home runs and swiping a pair of bags in that span. He now has 15 home runs on the year with a .271 average and 49 RBI. Today, he faces a terrible pitcher in Jake Irvin, who has a 5.25 ERA and 1.61 WHIP across 36 innings of work; and it gets even worse at home where he has a 6.20 ERA and 1.70 WHIP.
Jose Ramirez, 3B, Cleveland Guardians
Ramirez is also scorching hot, hitting .409 with a 1.154 OPS over his last 10 games, htting two home runs and swiping a bag in that span. He is hitting .293 on the year with 11 dingers, six steals, and 87 total R/RBI. He has been way better at home this season, hitting .321 with a .949 OPS, compared to .268 and .794 on the road, respectively.
Fernando Tatis Jr, SS/OF, San Diego Padres
Tatis is averaging 14.4 dk ppg over his last 10 with a 3.89 average and 1.300 OPS in that span. He has three home runs and five steals in that timeframe. He has destroyed lefties this season with a 1.164 OPS against them, compared to a .837 OPS against righties. Wood has struggled this season with a 4.11 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. Tatis is my top spend-up on today’s slate.
Corbin Carroll, OF, Arizona Diamondbacks
Carroll is only hitting .243 over his last 10 games and yet he is still averaging 10.7 dk ppg in that spna because he has three bombs and two steals in that timeframe. That’s what makes him so great. He already has 16 home runs and 21 stolen bases on the year. He has been way better on the road this year with a 1.061 OPS and 12.4 dk ppg, compared to an .881 OPS and 9.1 dk ppg at home.
Lane Thomas, OF, Washington Nationals
Thomas is, somewhat quietly, having a fantastic season. He has 11 home runs and seven steals on the year with a .290 average. He is hot right now too, hitting .325 with a .974 OPS over his last 10 games. And he has been ridiculous against lefties this year, posting videogame-like numbers with a 1.051 OPS, compared to a .716 OPS against righties.
