MLB Injury Report: Starting Pitchers

Corbin Burnes, Arizona Diamondbacks - Elbow

The hope is that Monday’s MRI gives the Diamondbacks some positive news, because in the video below, it’s hard to glean much positivity. I’m no doctor, but I’d expect Burnes to miss some time.

Nathan Eovaldi, Texas Rangers - Triceps

While the issue isn’t considered long-term, it did warrant the team placing Eovaldi on the injured list. He’s dealing with triceps fatigue in his pitching arm.

Cole Ragans, Kansas City Royals - Groin

The expectation is that Ragans’ last rehab start will be his lone appearance before being activated from the IL. Keep an eye out for Thursday, June 5, for his return.

AJ Smith-Shawver, Atlanta Braves - Elbow

Smith-Shawver’s 2025 season will end as he’ll go under the knife for his elbow. The powers that be are determining whether he’ll undergo Tommy John surgery or the internal brace procedure to address his torn UCL.

Logan Gilbert, Seattle Mariners - Elbow

Gilbert will make at least one more rehab start before potentially being activated, so let’s say he takes two more rehab appearances, we are looking at a mid-June return for Gilbert.

Eury Perez, Miami Marlins - Elbow

Perez’s next rehab appearance could be his last before being activated and rejoining the big league rotation. Across seven rehab appearances thus far, Perez has a 1.96 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 23:7 K/BB ratio across 18.1 IP. If he’s available in your league, go add him now, if you haven’t done so already.

Aaron Nola, Philadelphia Phillies - Ankle

Nola should be heading out on a rehab assignment shortly, and seeing as his injury was to his ankle, he could keep his arm in shape, meaning that I wouldn’t be anticipating a lengthy rehab assignment.

Brandon Woodruff, Milwaukee Brewers - Shoulder/Ankle

So long as nothing goes wrong with his upcoming rehab appearance (June 3), Woodruff should be activated from the IL and join the Brewers either at the end of this week or early next. Roster Resource currently has him penciled in as Sunday’s starter against the Padres.

MLB Injury Report: Relief Pitchers

Porter Hodge, Chicago Cubs - Oblique/Hip

The good news is that Hodge’s oblique is essentially healed, and there’s no more pain there. However, he’s now dealing with a hip impingement that will delay his return a bit. Expect Daniel Palencia to remain as the team’s closer for the foreseeable future.

Evan Phillips, Los Angeles Dodgers - Elbow

Phillips will undergo Tommy John surgery, thus ending his season after just 5.2 IP.

MLB Injury Report: Hitters

Kyle Tucker, Chicago Cubs - Finger

Tucker is day-to-day with a jammed finger. His X-rays came back negative, so I wouldn’t expect him to miss more than a couple of games at most.

Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros - Hand

Just when it appeared like Alvarez would be returning to action, it was reported that Alvarez actually has a fracture in his hand, and there’s no timetable for his return to the Houston lineup.

Mookie Betts, Los Angeles Dodgers - Toe

Betts is dealing with a fractured toe on his left foot, but he’s expected to avoid a stint on the IL.

Christian Yelich, Milwaukee Brewers - Hand

Yelich took a pitch to his hand, but X-rays came back negative. He’s reportedly day-to-day at the moment.

Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies - Elbow

Expect Harper to return to the Philly lineup on Tuesday (June 3rd). He’s missed the last couple of games with an elbow contusion.

Jazz Chisholm, New York Yankees - Oblique

The earliest we could see Chisholm return to the Yankees is June 3rd, but that’s far from a guarantee.

Daulton Varsho, Toronto Blue Jays - Hamstring

Varsho strained his hamstring on Sunday and was subsequently placed on the injured list. With his evaluation being considered week-to-week, his absence will extend well past the minimum stay.

Ryan Mountcastle, Baltimore Orioles - Hamstring

Mountcastle was placed on the injured list with a hamstring strain.

Jordan Walker, St. Louis Cardinals - Wrist

Walker will head to the injured list with inflammation in his left wrist.
