Braxton Ashcraft Chalkboard MLB Pick: OVER 4.5 Strikeouts

Ashcraft has recorded at least five strikeouts in 10 straight starts, and in all but one start on the entire season! I’m a bit surprised, to say the least, that this line is at 4.5 on Chalkboard, especially when it’s at 5.5 on Underdog. Alas, we ride with it here at 4.5! His healthy 25.5% strikeout rate on the year is propped up by strong O-Swing% (36.6%) and SwStr% (12.5%) rates, and he has two legitimate “make-you-miss” pitches in his curveball and slider.

Aschraft’s opponent this afternoon, the Minnesota Twins, have the fourth-highest strikeout rate on the year against right-handed pitching, and they have the ninth-highest strikeout rate overall across the last two weeks! I’d expect the Twins to put anywhere from 4-to-6 lefties in its lineup, and that may actually behoove Ashcraft, whose strikeout rate against lefties (29.3%) is over eight percentage points higher than his mark against righties (21.1%).

Griffin Canning Chalkboard MLB Pick: OVER 1.5 Walks Allowed

I like the Nationals a whole lot today, but I’m going to focus on Canning’s walks allowed prop. He’s walked multiple batters in all but one start this season, and his issues with lefties is notable when taking on a Washington lineup that could feature as many as six left-handed hitters! Canning has a 14.5% walk rate against lefties on the year, and the Nationals as a team have a respectable 8.8% walk rate against RHP in 2026.

One last thing I’ll note in regards to Canning and some command issues: He has the 16th-lowest first pitch strike percentage (54.5%) and 19th-lowest zone percentage (38.3%) amongst starters with at least 20 IP this year.
