Davis Martin Chalkboard MLB Pick: OVER 5.5 Strikeouts
The strikeouts are up for Martin in 2026, and in fact, he’s struck out at least seven batters in six straight starts! During this impressive run, he’s posted a 36.6% O-Swing%, 70.4% contact rate, and 15.2% SwStr%. Believe it or not, dating back to April 23rd, which was the start of this impressive run for Martin, he has the fourth-highest K/9 (11.54), 5th-highest K% (32.0%), and seventh-highest SwStr% (15.2%) amongst qualified starters.
Martin’s slider has a 28.5% SwStr% on the year, but he has three other pitches that are also in the double-digits in that department. He’ll need these to be on if he wants to surpass this line in a divisional showdown today against the Twins. While the Twins are only about league average in terms of strikeout rate over the last two weeks, they do boast the league’s fifth-worst strikeout rate at 23.3% against right-handed pitchers for the entirety of 2026. Furthermore, the team’s strikeout rate is over three percentage points higher on the road than it is at home, and when looking at Martin’s numbers, his strikeout rate at home is over five percentage points higher than his mark on the road.
Martin at home has been profitable this year, so let’s hope the good times continue for the 29-year-old righty.
Kevin McGonigle Chalkboard MLB Pick: Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI
McGonigle is slashing .391/.462/.609 during his six game hit streak, and he’s also recorded six runs scored and five RBI during that stretch. For the entire year, he’s posted an .861 OPS and .152 ISO against RHP, and that will be important today against Los Angeles’ Grayson Rodriguez.
Through two starts, Rodriguez has posted a 10.61 ERA, 4.46 FIP, and 2.14 WHIP. Albeit a small sample size, he’s yet to find an answer for left-handed hitters, as they have posted a .429 average, .714 SLG, and .528 wOBA against him! He throws his four-seamer to lefties over half of the time, and that pitch has been bludgeoned, to the tune of a .455 average, 1.000 SLG, and 98.4 mph average exit velocity! His next most used pitch against lefties is his changeup, which has actually been relatively effective for him.
Why did we dive into those pitch splits? Well, Rodriguez’s two primary pitches against lefties are music to McGonigle’s ears. Take a look at the numbers below for McGonigle against right-handed four-seamers and changeups:
- vs. RH 4-seamers: .318 AVG, .523 SLG, .410 wOBA
- vs. RH changeups: .368 AVG, .368 SLG, .395 wOBA
Strong winds blowing across the field and slightly out to right, so a little shift pushing it totally out to right would be even more helpful for McGonigle in this matchup.
