Michael King Chalkboard MLB Pick: OVER 5.5 Strikeouts

King currently has a 25.8% strikeout rate on the year, and he’s recorded at least six strikeouts in four of his last six starts. His strikeout rate at home this season sits at a solid 27%, and his changeup, slider, and four-seamer all have a SwStr% of at least 10% this season. Whenever King is pitching at home, he has my attention, and the matchup today might be better than you think.

Over the last two weeks, the Athletics’ strikeout rate is 20.9%, which is just 19th in MLB, and while the team’s strikeout rate is better against righties than lefties, there’s another key thing to note here. At home, the Athletics boast a 19.6% strikeout rate. However, on the road, they have the ninth-highest strikeout rate at 24.2%!

Away vs. LHP28.8%
Away vs. RHP22.6%

The Athletics aren’t exactly the easiest of matchups, but there’s plenty of swing-and-miss in that lineup, and I’m confident in King taking advantage of that.

Shohei Ohtani Chalkboard MLB Pick: Over 1.5 Total Bases

It was a slower start for Ohtani, but the tides are turning. He’s riding an eight-game hitting streak where he’s slashing .452/.550/.742 with an impressive .290 ISO and .541 wOBA! In the month of May against RHP, Ohtani has a .333 average, 1.037 OPS, and .235 ISO! Also, if you’re a fan of home/road splits, Ohtani’s been more productive on the road this year, as he has a .902 OPS and .213 ISO on the road this year, compared to an .853 OPS and .192 ISO at home.

Today, Ohtani will take on Brandon Sproat, a righty with a 5.75 ERA, 5.79 FIP, and 1.99 HR/9 across 40.2 IP. Sproat’s ERA is north of six at home this year, but the big thing that I’m paying attention to here is Sproat’s issues with lefties. Thus far in 2026, the Milwaukee right-hander has served up a .493 SLG, .400 wOBA, and 1.89 HR/9 to lefties.

Ohtani should extend his hit streak today, and surpass this total bases line.
