Braves vs. Phillies Prediction: Monday, September 7th

Let’s lead off our MLB best bets today with an NL East showdown between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies. This has been an entertaining series thus far as the divisional race heats up. The Braves have won 2 of 3 games over the weekend, and the 4-game series concludes today.

Monday afternoon’s matchup has the makings of a lower-scoring contest. Let’s take the under for the full game and the first 5 innings, as we count on a pitcher’s duel.

Jesus Luzardo starts for Philadelphia, and the left-hander has been lights out for an extended stretch. He boasts an impressive 2.07 ERA and 2.83 FIP over his last 20 starts dating back to mid-May. Luzardo also owns a 1.32 ERA over his past 6 outings, and a 1.86 ERA over his past 15 starts.

The Phillies’ southpaw now faces a Braves offense that has a .290 wOBA against left-handed pitching over the past month. Atlanta has also struggled on the road in this stretch, with a .275 wOBA overall and a .265 wOBA vs. lefties. It sets up well for Luzardo, who has a 1.82 ERA over his last 6 home starts.

On the other side, Braves starter Grant Holmes can also hold his own. The right-hander has pitched well lately, posting a 2.73 ERA over his last 6 starts. He also has a 2.86 ERA over his past 13 outings dating back to June. Meanwhile, the Phillies have struggled to hit righties recently, with a .197 batting average and .262 wOBA in the split over the past two weeks.

Guardians vs. Orioles Prediction: Monday, September 7th

Let’s focus on the Baltimore Orioles hosting the Cleveland Guardians for our second round of MLB best bets today. This is a big series as both squads are fighting for the third AL Wild Card berth. Cleveland currently holds the spot, but Baltimore is alive at 4 games back.

The Orioles are desperate for a victory. They’ve lost 6 straight and dropped crucial ground in the Wild Card race. The Guardians, meanwhile, have been surging lately with a 12-5 record over their last 17 games. In Monday’s matchup, the O’s are worth backing at home for a few reasons.

Trevor Rogers gets the start for Baltimore. The left-hander has mostly pitched well over the past few months, posting a 2.99 ERA and 2.76 FIP over his last 14 starts. During this stretch, he’s allowed 2 runs or fewer in 11 of those 14 outings. That includes an 11-strikeout performance last time out at Coors Field against the Rockies.

Rogers will get a favorable matchup here. Cleveland has struggled to hit left-handed pitching recently, sporting a .211 batting average and .286 wOBA in the split over the past two weeks. Meanwhile, Rogers owns a 2.58 ERA over his last 6 home starts.

On the other side, Joey Cantillo is on the bump for Cleveland. The southpaw just got rocked for 9 runs at home by the Blue Jays in his latest outing. He now has a subpar 4.02 FIP and 1.48 WHIP on the season. Cantillo could have trouble with a Baltimore offense that boasts a .343 wOBA against lefties over the past two weeks, which ranks 10th in the majors.
